Canada out of NATO!
Money for Homes, Jobs and Education! Not for War and Occupation!

4:00 - 5:00pm
Outside Defence Minister MP Harjit Sajjan’s Office
6406 Victoria Drive
Vancouver, Canada
This year is the 70th anniversary of NATO, a dangerous military alliance. Since the horrific bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999, NATO has been increasingly used to wage imperialist wars, such as in Afghanistan and Libya, and with the NATO military buildup in Eastern Europe. NATO also puts intense pressure on Canada to increase military spending that diverts money that people in Canada need for urgent social and environmental needs. Join this important action to say Canada out of NATO!
This action is part of protests are taking place across the country.
Organized by the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW) and the Mobilization Against War and Occupation (MAWO)

* Speakers * Videos * Discussion *
Our world today faces two major crises: Imperialist wars and occupations, and the climate crisis. While they are often discussed as two separate issues, the perpetrators are the same. Wars and occupations carried out by the United States and their allies, including the government of Canada, and the over 800 U.S. mililtary bases around the world deserve the attention of climate activists and antiwar activists alike.
Join MAWO and our speakers to discuss:
- What environmental impacts have imperialist wars, occupations and military had on people and the environment around the world?
- How does the government of Canada measure up as a military polluter?
- How can the antiwar movement and the climate justice movement work together to build a more united and stronger movement to end wars, occupations and the climate crisis?
Speakers:
>> TAMARA LORINCZ - PhD candidate Balsillie School of International Affairs, Wilfrid Laurier University. Member of the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace, and the No to NATO 2019 Campaign
>> THOMAS DAVIES - Organizer with Climate Convergence Vancouver and Mobilization Against War and Occupation (MAWO). Author of “System Change Not Climate Change” (Battle of Ideas Press, 2019)
