For the last week, the Saudi-led, U.S.-backed coalition has launched a new offensive in Yemen against the port city of Hodeidah. This brutal assault will make food, fuel and medical supplies even more difficult to reach the 8 million Yemenis in danger of starvation as a result of over 3 years of bombing and an air, land and sea blockade imposed by Saudi Arabia and their allies.

The government of Canada plays a role in this brutal war. In 2016, Saudi Arabia received over $142 million of military goods from Canada in 2016. Also, the Trudeau government continues to move ahead with a $15 billion arms deal to supply Saudi Arabia with heavily weaponized light-armored vehicles.

In Syria, over the last seven years the U.S. and their imperialist allies, including Canada, have been working to overthrow the independent government of Bashar al Assad. The U.S. troops on the ground and fighter jets in the air have brought death, destruction and misery to the people of Syria. Now, as the Syrian government advances against the last terrorist hold out in Syria, Idlib, there are news reports that “massive bombing packages” are being prepared by the U.S. government, ready to respond in the case of a “chemical attack by the government of Syria.”

For almost 17 years the U.S. government and their allies, including Canada have carried out continuous wars and occupations against people across the Middle East and North Africa. Enough is enough!
