This event will be take place on the traditional and unceded territories of the Tsleil-Waututh (səl̓ilwətaɁɬ), the Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm), and the Squamish (Skwxwú7mesh) Coast Salish Nations.

15 years ago, on March 19, 2003 the U.S. government launched the “shock and awe” attack against Iraq, a continuous and deadly rain of bombs and fire that engulfed the country. This was followed by a full-blown military occupation justified by blatant and proven lies - such as Iraq having “weapons of mass destruction”.

Today, over 1.2 million Iraqis have been killed, and infrastructure such as electricity, sewage, roads, schools and hospitals, have been and remain obliterated. Cancer rates have skyrocketed 40 times due to the U.S. military’s use of depleted uranium weaponry. Every single indicator of quality of life for the people of Iraq has taken a nosedive for the worse since March 19, 2003.

March also marks the beginning of another devastating war – the U.S. backed, Saudi-Arabia led bombing of Yemen began three years ago. More than 15,000 people have been killed and according to the United Nations, 80% of the population need humanitarian assistance.

Over the past 15 years, the bloody U.S. war machine has also launched devastating attacks against oppressed people, especially in the Middle East and North Africa. However, the worldwide protests against the invasion of Iraq were the largest ever in human history, and occupied people have continued to resist war and occupation every single day. As peace-loving people around the world, we have the responsibility to continue this vital struggle and to demand for an end to the new era of war and occupation!
