Join Mobilization Against War and Occupation (MAWO) to discuss MAWO’s recent past actions, and planning for upcoming actions, including our monthly antiwar rally and petition drive on February 23, which will be part of a global day of action demanding the U.S. return Guantanamo back to Cuba. The meeting will begin with 45 minutes of news clips and multimedia; an overview of US-led wars, occupations and threats, as well as people’s resistance to imperialist attacks and intervention.

On January 30th, 2018, U.S. President Trump signed an executive order to keep Guantanamo Bay prison open. Not only is the U.S. government continuing to arbitrarily detain and torture people and deny them of legal and human rights, they are also continuing to occupy the Cuban territory of Guantanamo Bay. February 23 will mark the 115th anniversary of the U.S. seizure of Guantanamo Bay from the Cuban people. The Cuban government and people are demanding the return of Guantanamo, and on February 23 a Global Day of Action has been called to echo that demand, initiated by the Coalition Against U.S. Foreign Military Bases.

Here in Vancouver, Mobilization Against War and Occupation will be part of this Global Day of Action, demanding the U.S. return Guantanamo to Cuba, and that the U.S. close all foreign military bases. The U.S. has over 800 foreign military bases around the world, headquarters for the brutal and destructive new era of war and occupation.

((( 3 ))) U.S. Hands Off North Korea United Actions a Great Success!

In organizing the “Vancouver Group” summit on North Korea, the United States and Canada tried to dig up old Cold War nuclear fears and alliances to justify their aggression on the Korean Peninsula. Leading peace organizers from around the world also met in Vancouver at the same time - to forge their own alliances and demonstrate that there is a clear alternative that does not involve sanctions, threats or military aggression. Vancouver's anti-war coalition, Mobilization Against War and Occupation (MAWO) was heavily involved in these political activities – organizing its own “Hands Off North Korea!” public forum with retired U.S. Army Colonel Ann Wright and Professor Michel Chossudovsky, and participating in all the "Vancouver Women's Forum on Peace and Security on the Korean Peninsula" actions, which brought 16 leading women peace organizers from around the world to Vancouver.
