It is now been almost two years since the new U.S.-led war and bombing campaign against Iraq began. Today, under the pretense of fighting the terrorist organization Daesh, there are over 4,000 U.S. troops and nearly 8,000 private contractors fighting in the U.S. government’s campaign to further destabilize and divide Iraq and establish another failed state. And now U.S. has stepped up its military involvement in Syria by sending in an additional 250 special operations troops.

Beyond the borders of Iraq and Syria, the new era of war and occupation which started in 2001, and that we live in today, continues to destroy the lives of people in Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Bahrain and all across the Middle East and North Africa. This tragic level of destruction has resulted in the displacement of tens of millions of people from North Africa and the Middle East and the most devastating refugee crisis in Europe. Tens of thousands of refugees, a majority from Iraq and Syria, continue to risk their lives each month to escape from a disastrous situation under war and occupation which has forced them to cross the Mediterranean Sea for their safety and a decent life. 

On Saturday, May 28 MAWO invites you to get involved as we gather to protest against imperialist wars and occupations and to appeal people to sign various petitions regarding war, occupation and sanctions around the world.
