Speaker:  Alison Bodine, Chair of Mobilization Against War and Occupation (MAWO)

March of 2016 will mark 5 years since the so-called civil war began in Syria. Today, over 250,000 people have been killed and at least 1 million more injured according to the United Nations.  4.6 million people have fled the country. 8 million more are internally displaced, forced to abandon their homes often for the second or the third time.  

Every time that major media reports on the human tragedy and complete destruction in Syria they refer to this horrific crisis as a “civil war”. This ignores the significant role of outside intervention by the United States and their allies, including Canada. 

Mobilization Against War and Occupation (MAWO) invites peace-loving people to join us for an important discussion on the “civil war” in Syria.  We will take on the mass media lies and discuss the fundamental question, “Who is Responsible for the Civil War in Syria?” 

We will also discuss:
>> What has been the result of the U.S.-led bombing campaign against Daesh in Syria and the Middle East?
>> Is there a difference between imperialist intervention in Syria and Russia’s?
>> What is the government of Canada’s role in the current crisis?
>> How must the antiwar movement respond to the deepening human crisis in Syria?
