A
 new war on Iraq and Syria has begun, following the same formula we have
 seen time and time again: the U.S. government creates a “justification”
 for war, uses mainstream media to drum up a fear-campaign, calls for 
the collaboration of other imperialist countries, and starts an 
open-ended war with devastating consequences.
In the build up of an 
imperialist coalition against Iraq, the U.S. State Department claims 
they have more than 60 partners joining this new war machine. The U.S., 
now with the support of France, Britain, Australia, the Netherlands, 
Denmark and Belgium have launched hundreds of airstrikes on Iraq. The 
U.S. is also leading airstrikes on Syria with the support of their 
allies including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar 
and Jordan. This new war drive has also been supported by the government
 of Canada, which has already sent at least 69 special operations 
troops, two aircraft carriers and other logistical military support, as 
well as at least $15 million in “security assistance” to Iraq. Media 
reports are now citing statements from Prime Minister Stephen Harper 
that a direct combat role is being considered by the government of 
Canada.

The justification for this massive build-up for a new war
 to “fight the terrorist group ISIS/ISIL” has not come out of thin air. 
The U.S. fueled the rise of sectarianism under their occupation of Iraq,
 funded and armed ISIS/ISIL for the last three years in Syria, and has 
manufactured a new terrorist group to justify yet another war.
As the
 U.S. and their imperialist allies claim to be helping rid Iraq of 
ISIS/ISIL, the people of Iraq have already had 11 years of a US-led war 
and occupation to know what kind brutality is possible under imperialist
 occupation. The horrific occupation has killed an estimated 1.8 million
 since 2003, destroyed incredible amounts of infrastructure, and 
tortured unknown thousands. All of these, and more, are testaments to 
the fact foreign occupiers have no interest in helping the Iraqi people.
