As MAWO approaches our 11th
anniversary, it is a critical time for the antiwar movement to act
against the new war on Iraq and the expansion of imperialist military
aggression against Syria. The U.S. and their imperialist allies claim
to be helping rid Iraq of the terrorist group ISIS/ISIL, while a
closer look reveals that the U.S. fueled the rise of sectarianism
under their occupation of Iraq, funded and armed ISIS/ISIL for the
last three years in Syria, and has manufactured this new terrorist
group to justify yet another war. 



The people of Iraq have already had 11
years of a US-led war and occupation to know what kind of brutality
is possible under imperialist occupation. The horrific occupation has
killed an estimated 1.8 million since 2003, destroyed incredible
amounts of infrastructure, and tortured unknown thousands. Now the
U.S., with the support of Canada, France, Britain, Australia, the
Netherlands, Denmark and Belgium have launched hundreds of airstrikes
on Iraq. The U.S. is also leading airstrikes on Syria with the
support of their allies including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab
Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan and recently the use of Turkey’s
military bases. 



As of last Tuesday October 7th
the government of Canada has also expanded their support from special
operations troops and logistical support to six CF-18 fighters, two
surveillance aircrafts, an air-to-air tanker and 600 military
personal to take part in airstrikes on Iraq.


In the last 11 years since MAWO formed,
we have been organizing consistently against the New Era of War and
Occupation that the U.S. and their imperialist allies have launched
since September 11th 2001. MAWO has come out onto the
streets against the war and occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq,
raised voices to demand self-determination for Palestine, campaigned
against imperialist intervention in Libya and throughout Africa,
demanded an end to sanctions on Iran and an end to foreign
imperialist meddling from Syria to Ukraine to Venezuela. 



>From the struggles against wars abroad,
MAWO has always also connected these to the war at home, where
Indigenous nations are still fighting for their self-determination
and where poor and working people are under attack by imperialist
governments. Recognizing that an effective antiwar movement needs to
be built with united and international cooperation, the last 11 years
of work has taken MAWO’s organizing from local communities to
international events, always seeking creative ways to build and
advance the antiwar movement.

mobilization to demand “U.S./France/Canada and All Imperialists
Hands off Iraq and Syria!”
