In a recent interview Fernando González, one of the Cuban 5 Heroes that was released from U.S. prison and returned to Cuba in late February, explained the reason that the Cuban 5 were arrested and imprisoned over 15 years ago. He said, “We were punished for having worked on behalf of the Cuban people, on behalf of the Cuban revolution, and even for working for the U.S. people, since we thwarted terrorist actions that might have harmed them.” For these heroic actions the Cuban 5 have already served long sentences away from their family, friends and homeland of Cuba.

Today, three of the Cuban 5, Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino and Antonio Guerrero, remain behind U.S. prison bars. Now is the time for the voices of peace and justice-loving people from Vancouver to Washington DC and around the world to become louder and louder, demanding immediate freedom for ALL of the Cuban 5.

May 5th will also mark the 6th consecutive monthly protest in Ottawa, and will be the first monthly action to take place in Seattle, WA for freedom for ALL of the Cuban 5. Join us in the international "5th of each month for the Cuban 5" campaign and let's unite around the world to free ALL 5 Cuban Heroes now!

WHO ARE THE 5 CUBAN HEROES?

Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, also known as the Cuban 5, are five men who were wrongly accused and convicted in a U.S. Federal Court of “conspiracy to commit espionage” and other fabricated charges, following their arrest and imprisonment in 1998. The 5 were actually unarmed men involved in monitoring Miami-based terrorist organizations, which since 1959 have been responsible for the deaths of over 3,400 people in Cuba, including one resident of Canada, Fabio di Celmo, in 1997. Through their important work, these 5 men were able to prevent further deaths in Cuba. As of March, 2014 René González and Fernando González have both returned permanently to Cuba in a great victory for justice-loving people all over the world. Gerardo, Ramón, and Antonio remain unjustly in U.S. jails facing sentences up to double-life plus 15 years.

En una entrevista reciente, Fernando González, uno de los Cinco Héroes Cubanos que fue luberado de una prisión norteamericana y regresó a Cuba a finales de febrero, explicó la razón por la que los Cinco
fueron arrestados y encarcelados hace más de 15 años. Dijo que “Fuimos castigados por haber trabajado a nombre del pueblo cubano, a nombre de la Revolución Cubana, e incluso haber trabajado para el pueblo norteamericano, pues frustramos acciones terroristas que podrían haberles hecho daño”. Por estas heroicas acciones, los Cinco han servido ya largas sentencias alejados de sus familias, sus amigos, y su patria: Cuba.

Hoy, tres de los Cinco, Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino y Antonio Guerrero, permanecen tras las rejas de prisiones norteamericanas. Ahora es el momento para que las voces de los amantes de la paz y la justicia desde Vancouver hasta Washington DC y por todo el mundo, se escuchen más y más alto, exigiendo la inmediata libertad para TODOS los Cinco Héroes Cubanos.

Únase al Comité de Vancouver por la Liberación de los Cinco, en nuestra protesta por el 102do mes
consecutivo frente al Consulado de Estados Unidos el 5 de mayo. El 5 de mayo marcará además la sexta protesta mensual consecutiva en Ottawa, Canadá, por la liberación de TODOS los Cinco Héroes Cubanos, así como el día internacional de acción “el 5 de cada mes por los Cinco”.

Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antoni o Guerrero, Fernando González y René González, también conocidos como los Cinco Héroes, son cinco hombres injustamente acusados y con denados en una Corte Federal de Estados Unidos por "conspiración para cometer espionaje" y otros cargos fabricados, siguiendo su arresto y encarcelamiento en 1998.
