In just a few days, people from around the world, including 21 delegates from Vancouver and BC will gather in Washington, DC for our 5 Cuban Heroes. Here in Vancouver, members and supporters of the Free the Cuban 5 Committee – Vancouver will be raising our voices in front of the US Consulate at the 103rd Monthly Picket Action in Vancouver to demand “FREE ALL THE CUBAN 5 NOW!
 
On June 5th, actions and events for the Cuban 5 Heroes will also be taking place in Ottawa, Toronto and Seattle as the “5th of the month for the Cuban 5” continues to grow stronger more united than ever!

*HOW YOU CAN HELP THE BC DELEGATION TO "5 DAYS FOR THE CUBAN 5!"*

For the past month the Free the Cuban 5 Committee - Vancouver has been working to build a strong delegation to Washington, DC for "5Days for the Cuban 5." What we initially thought would be a delegation of 10-12 people, turned  into a delegation of 15, and is now a delegation of 21 committed to go and support the 5 Cuban Heroes 5,000 km away in Washington, DC! 

Building this delegation has also meant a large expense. We started with a fundraising goal for $7,000, which we achieved and surpassed last week due to the tremendous support of people in Vancouver, BC, and across Canada. We are now working towards raising $10,000 in total. 

But we need your support! Every donation will go towards our campaign to bring as many people as possible to "5 days for the Cuban 5"  in Washington, DC and show to U.S. President Obama that justice and peace-loving people from Canada and around the world are united together in demanding "Free ALL the Cuban 5 NOW!"

WHO ARE THE 5 CUBAN HEROES?
 
Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, also known as the Cuban 5, are five men who were wrongly accused and convicted in a U.S. Federal Court of “conspiracy to commit espionage” and other fabricated charges, following their arrest and imprisonment in 1998. The 5 were actually unarmed men involved in monitoring Miami-based terrorist organizations, which since 1959 have been responsible for the deaths of over 3,400 people in Cuba, including one resident of Canada, Fabio di Celmo, in 1997. Through their important work, these 5 men were able to prevent further deaths in Cuba. As of March, 2014 René González and Fernando González have both returned permanently to Cuba in a great victory for justice-loving people all over the world. Gerardo, Ramón, and Antonio remain unjustly in U.S. jails facing sentences up to double-life plus 15 years.

Faltan pocos días, personas de todo el mundo, incluyendo 21 delegados de Vancouver y Columbia Británica se reunirán en Washington, DC para nuestros 5 Héroes Cubanos. Aquí en Vancouver, todos los miembros y simpatizantes del Comité de Vancouver por la Liberación de los Cinco levantemos nuestras voces frente al Consulado Norteamericano en la Acción Mensual de Protesta Número 103 en Vancouver para exigir que “¡LIBEREN A TODOS LOS CINCO CUBANOS AHORA!”
 
¡El 5 de junio, las acciones y los eventos por los Cinco Héroes Cubanos tendrán lugar también en Ottawa, Toronto y Seattle, debido a que “El 5 de cada mes por los Cinco” sigue creciendo y está más unido que nunca!

* CÓMO SE PUEDE AYUDAR LA DELEGACIÓN DE BC "CINCO DÍAS POR LOS CINCO!" *

Durante el último mes, el Comité de Vancouver por la Liberación de los Cinco ha estado trabajando para construir una fuerte delegación a Washington , DC para "Cinco Días por los Cinco." Lo que pensábamos inicialmente sería una delegación de 10 a 12 personas , se convirtió en una delegación de 15 , y ahora es una delegación de 21 comprometido a ir a apoyar a los 5 Héroes Cubanos 5000 kilometros de distancia, en Washington, DC!

La construcción de esta delegación también ha significado un gran gasto. Empezamos con una meta de recaudación de fondos por $7000 dólares , lo que hemos logrado y superado la semana pasada debido al tremendo apoyo de la gente en Vancouver , BC, y en todo Canadá. Ahora estamos trabajando para recaudar $10000 en total.

¿QUIÉNES SON LOS CINCO HÉROES CUBANOS?
Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González y René González, también conocidos como los Cinco, son cinco hombres que fueron injustamente acusados y condenados en una Corte Federal de Estados Unidos por “conspiración para cometer asesinato” y otros cargos fabricados, siguiendo su arresto y encarcelamiento en 1998. Los Cinco eran en realidad hombres desarmados que estaban monitoreando a las organizaciones terroristas basadas en Miami, las cuales desde 1959 han sido responsables de las muertes de más de 3400 personas en Cuba, incluyendo a un residente en Canadá, Fabio di Celmo, en 1997.
