After only a few weeks of 2014, it is already clear that this year will be one of continued imperialist aggression, combated by the struggle of oppressed people world wide against war, occupation and injustice. The main focus of imperialist powers continues against Syria, where a US fomented civil war and foreign backed and armed mercenaries have sent Syria down a path of destruction. Now the Geneva II negotiations on Syria are being carried out, under the watchful eye of the same imperialist countries that have themselves brought so much devastation to Syria. Whatever the outcome of these talks, Syria is not on a level playing field, and is facing the US and their allies maneuverings attempting to overthrow the government of Syria.

Meanwhile in Egypt, today marks the third anniversary of the overthrow of US backed dictator Hosni Mubarak by a heroic mass movement determined to change the course of their country towards a better future. Three years later, the Egyptian people are still on the streets, now protesting last year’s military coup against democratically elected President Morsi.
