Join the Free the Cuban 5 Committee-Vancouver at a special organizing meeting focused on planning for upcoming actions marking the 16th anniversary of the arrest and imprisonment of the Cuban 5 on September 12, 1998. We will also be celebrating the birthday of one of the Cuban 5 Heroes, René González, who returned to Cuba in May of 2013 after serving out every day of his unjust sentence.

With Cuban 5 Heroes Fernando González and René González released and free in Cuba, adding their efforts to the campaign to free the remaining 3 heroes, our work globally becomes much more important. More than ever this case of human rights and social justice needs your support. We would like to ask all people who believe in peace and social justice to get involved and join us this September 5th in front of the U.S. Consulate to demand: FREE ALL 5 CUBAN HEROES NOW!

The People’s Social Forum will take place this summer, August 21-24 in Ottawa. It is expected that thousands of activists from across Canada will participate in this gathering. The Social Forum will be an opportunity for participants to share experiences, to learn from each other, and to try to work together for justice and human rights.

WHO ARE THE 5 CUBAN HEROES?
 
Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, also known as the Cuban 5, are five men who were wrongly accused and convicted in a U.S. Federal Court of “conspiracy to commit espionage” and other fabricated charges, following their arrest and imprisonment in 1998. The 5 were actually unarmed men involved in monitoring Miami-based terrorist organizations, which since 1959 have been responsible for the deaths of over 3,400 people in Cuba, including one resident of Canada, Fabio di Celmo, in 1997. Through their important work, these 5 men were able to prevent further deaths in Cuba. As of March, 2014 René González and Fernando González have both returned permanently to Cuba in a great victory for justice-loving people all over the world. Gerardo, Ramón, and Antonio remain unjustly in U.S. jails facing sentences up to double-life plus 15 years.

¿QUIÉNES SON LOS CINCO HÉROES CUBANOS?

Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González y René González, también conocidos como los Cinco, son cinco hombres que fueron injustamente acusados y condenados en una Corte Federal de Estados Unidos por "conspiración para cometer asesinato" y otros cargos fabricados, siguiendo su arresto y encarcelamiento en 1998. Los Cinco eran en realidad hombres desarmados que estaban monitoreando a las organizaciones terroristas basadas en Miami, las cuales desde 1959 han sido responsables de las muertes de más de 3400 personas en Cuba, incluyendo a un residente en Canadá, Fabio di Celmo, en 1997. Gracias a su importante trabajo, estos cinco hombres pudieron evitar más muertes en Cuba. Hasta marzo de 2014, René González y Fernando González habían regresado a Cuba de manera permanente, en una gran victoria para las personas que aman la justicia en todo el mundo.
