“Syria: Between Iraq and a Hard Place”

A tribute to the late Saul Landau
Film Screening, Speakers and Discussion

TUESDAY October 1st
7pm
Joe's Cafe [In Large North Hall]
1150 Commercial Dr. at William St

The
last few weeks have shown how quickly the strategy of US imperialism
can shift and change, when almost ninety percent of American people are
opposed to another war in the Middle East, and Obama faced a lack of
support from key allies and even US Congress. What was a highly
escalated situation in which a US military strike on Syria seemed
imminent, suddenly became a diplomatic deal brokered between Russia and
the US and accepted by Syria. Now as of Friday September 27th this deal
became a United Nations Security Council resolution. However, Syria’s
civil war is still tearing the country apart with mercenaries and
weapons supplied by the US government and their allies. Important to
note, the US government is still keeping the option of a military strike
 on the table.

In a time of misinformation, deception and
fabrication by colonial powers and especially the U.S., Saul Landau’s
film, “Syria: Between Iraq and a Hard Place” gives a picture of what
life is really like in Syria, past the mainstream media spin. This
documentary explains the history of US government threats against Syria
starting over a decade ago. The film provides a vital context to the
many years of foreign maneuvering and meddling in Syria’s internal
affairs that have led up to the crisis in Syria today.
