The simple phrase“they will return” has been echoed around the world. It has been spoken by peace-loving people everywhere, by artists and intellectuals from actor Danny Glover to 10 Nobel Peace prize winners. Often it is followed by another phrase, “the Cuban 5 will be free.”

Antonio, Fernando, Ramón and Gerardo have now been imprisoned in U.S. jails for over 15 years, but they have never once stopped saying “I will return.”

It is this conviction that fuels René Gonzalez, one of the Cuban 5 who was released from prison and is now permanently in Cuba. This is the hope that has led to the Yellow Ribbon Campaign, launched by  René Gonzalez, that has people all over Cuba and the world tying a yellow ribbon to trees, light posts, fences and more to demonstrate their desire to see all of the Cuban 5 return.

This determination is also what brings the Free the Cuban 5 Committee-Vancouver to the front door of the U.S. government in Vancouver every month. It is what brings people who believe in justice and dignity to be part of an international pressure campaign demanding that U.S. President Barack Obama free the Cuban 5.

On Tuesday, November 5th, join us for the 96th consecutive monthly picket action to free the Cuban 5 heroes held in U.S. jails, as we go to the steps of the U.S. Consulate to say, “Volverán” “They will return!”

WHO ARE THE 5 CUBAN HEROES?
Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, also known as the Cuban 5, are five men who were wrongly accused and convicted in a U.S. Federal Court of “conspiracy to commit espionage” and other fabricated charges, following their arrest and imprisonment in 1998. The 5 were actually unarmed men involved in monitoring Miami-based terrorist organizations, which since 1959 have been responsible for the deaths of over 3,400 people in Cuba, including one resident of Canada, Fabio di Celmo, in 1997. Through their important work, these 5 men were able to prevent further deaths in Cuba. In April of 2013 René González, one of the Cuban 5, returned permanently to Cuba in a great victory for justice-loving people all over the world. Gerardo, Ramón, Antonio and Fernando remain unjustly in U.S. jails facing sentences up to double-life plus 15 years.

La simple frase “volverán” se ha hecho eco en todo el mundo. La han dicho personas amantes de la paz en todas partes, artistas e intelectuales que incluyen desde el actor Danny Glover hasta 10 ganadores del Premio Nobel. Por lo general viene seguida de la frase “los 5 Cubanos serán libres”.

Antonio, Fernando, Ramón y Gerardo han estado ya presos en cárceles de Estados Unidos por más de 15 años, pero  nunca han dejado de decir “regresaré”.

Es esta convicción lo que ha servido de aliento a René, uno de los 5 Cubanos que fue liberado de prisión y que ahora estará en Cuba de manera permanente. Esta es la esperanza que llevó a la Campaña de las Cintas Amarillas, lanzada por René González, y que tiene a personas por toda Cuba y el mundo amarrando un lazo amarillo a los árboles, postes de electricidad, cercas y muchos más para demostrar su deseo de ver volver a los 5 Cubanos.

Esta determinación es lo que trae al Comité de Vancouver por la Liberación de los 5 a la puerta principal del gobierno norteamericano en Vancouver todos los meses. Es lo que trae a la gente que cree en la justicia y la dignidad a ser parte de una campaña de presión internacional exigiendo que el Presidente norteamericano Barack Obama libere a los 5 Cubanos.

El martes, cinco de noviembre, únase a nosotros para nuestro 96to piquete de acción consecutivo exigiendo la liberación de los 5 Héroes Cubanos de cárceles norteamericana, al ir a los escalones del Consulado de Estados Unidos a decir “¡Volverán!”, y “¡Regresarán!”.

¿QUIÉNES SON LOS 5 HÉROES CUBANOS?
Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González y René González, más conocidos como Los 5, son cinco hombres que fueron injustamente acusados y condenados en una Corte Federal de Estados Unidos por “conspiración para cometer espionaje” y otros cargos fabricados, siguiendo su arresto y encarcelación en 1998. Los 5 eran en realidad hombres desarmados que estaban involucrados en el monitoreo de organizaciones terroristas basadas en Miami, las cuales desde 1959 han sido responsables de más de 3.400 personas en Cuba, incluyendo a un residente en Canadá, Fabio di Celmo, en 1997. A través de su importante trabajo, estos cinco hombres pudieron evitar más muertes en Cuba.
