On December 17th, 2010, a
young Tunisian street vendor named Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on
fire outside of a government office. He died from his injuries. His
profound act of protest in response to a life of poverty, constant
harassment and humiliation ignited a mass uprising that brought down
Tunisia's U.S.-backed dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. Soon after,
Egyptians overthrew their own U.S.-backed dictator, Hosni Mubarak, as
part of a surging wave of uprisings in countries throughout North
Africa and the Middle East.



Two years on, we ask the questions:



>> What is the situation today
for the people of Tunisia and Egypt? What are the current demands of
protestors?
>> How have the U.S. and other
imperialist countries responded to the wave of mass movements in the
Middle East and North Africa?
>> Why are mass uprisings
against governments in countries like Bahrain, Yemen and Saudi Arabia
not covered in the mainstream media?

Speakers:
~ Azza Rojbi - a young Tunisian social
justice activist, student organizer and MAWO Executive Committee
member. 

~ Ali Yerevani – political editor of
the Fire This Time newspaper and the Battle of Idea's Press. Ali was
a participant in the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
