For over a decade, our world has been dominated by a new era of war and occupation. This started with the brutal invasion and occupation of Afghanistan which continues after 11 years. The war path continued with the criminal Iraq war in 2003, which the Iraqi people are still living under. In the last year and a half, new fronts of war have brought the destruction of Libya, which turned the country from a once sovereign and independent country to a complete chaos. Right now the next targets, Syria and then Iran, are facing a build up of imperialist campaigning and preparation for military intervention, as well as covert intervention and sanctions. While this war abroad is raging, here at home attacks on civil liberties are on the rise, reminding us that if we do not fight for our rights, they will be lost.
As this madness of war, occupation and destruction grows, peace loving people, poor, working and oppressed people are taking a stand against war and occupation, and uniting in the fight for a better world. On the 11th anniversary of the occupation of Afghanistan the United National Antiwar Coalition (UNAC) in the U.S. has called for International days of action against wars at home and abroad from October 5-7. Mobilization Against War and Occupation has endorsed this call and is organizing for a rally and petition campaign.
