Public Meeting Tonight!

The Vancouver Committee to Defend of Freedom of Expression invites you to tonight’s organizing meeting. We will be discussing important new legal and political developments in the case, and planning new actions in the growing campaign demanding “Police and Translink Hands Off Fire This Time Activists!”and “Stop Harassment and Assault on Civil Liberties!” We will also be discussing the upcoming Dec. 8th legal and political campaign fundraiser. 

The Vancouver Committee to Defend Freedom of Expression formed in response to the Friday, August 31 attack on Fire This Time activists when over ten Transit Police and RCMP officers participated in the assault, handcuffing, and forced removal of three peaceful Fire This Time newspaper distributors from the Metrotown Skytrain station. All three were released without charges later that night and visited hospital emergency rooms with various injuries.

In response to this assault, public support has been building, and the Committee has grown into a diverse and active group organizing consistent activities in defense of civil liberties and democratic rights.
