Friday November 2 and Saturday November 3, were two memorable days of
presentations, discussion and debate as well as poetry, food and live music at
the 5th Annual International Che Guevara Conference in Vancouver,
Canada. Friday evening kicked-off the conference with “Volervan!” a cultural
event dedicated to the freedom of the 5 Cuban heroes held in U.S. jails. Saturday
was the first day of workshops and included a documentary, music and 3
workshops featuring dynamic speakers from Cuba and Canada who dove in to this
year’s theme “Cuba’s Economic Reforms: Capitalism or Socialism”. Both days have
seen a great turn out, with hundreds of people participating and a diverse
crowd of people from many different communities and backgrounds. The presence
of many young people was also notable as a main discussion point was how to
build a better future for our world, and of course Cuba’s revolutionary example.

DR. ALEIDA GUEVARA  * Havana, Cuba
Cuban revolutionary leader, a pediatrician, prominent author of the
book, “Chavez, Venezuela and the New Latin America” and daughter of
the legendary Ernesto Che Guevara.

ALBERTO PRIETO * Havana, Cuba
Coordinator for North and Central America for the Central Committee of
Communist Party of Cuba. Alberto was previously the first secretary of
the Cuban Interests Section in Washington DC.

JAVIER DOMOKOS * Toronto, Canada
The Cuban Consul General in Toronto, Canada. Javier graduated from the
Havana's “Instituto Superior de Relaciones Internacionales” (ISRI) in
1992. Since 1992, Javier has been posted in several diplomatic
missions around the world including Turkey, Zimbabwe and Kenya, during
this time he has also worked for Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

ANTONIO GUERRERO CABRERA * Havana, Cuba
Member of the Union of Young Communists of Cuba (UJC) since 2001. Tony
is the son of Antonio Guerrero, one of the Cuban 5 political prisoners
held in U.S. jails. Tony graduated as an Engineer of Informatics
Sciences in 2009. Tony participated in the Cuban delegations to the
World Festival of Youth in 2005 in Venezuela and 2010 in South Africa.

MANUEL YEPE  *  Havana, Cuba
Journalist and professor at the Superior Institute of International
Relations of Havana. Manuel was a leader of the underground July 26
Movement in Matanzas leading up to the triumph of the Cuban revolution
in 1959, and worked directly with Ernesto Che Guevara.

MAVIS DORA ALVAREZ * Havana, Cuba
An agricultural engineer and educator who consults with Cuban family
farming and cooperatives. For forty years Mavis has been member of the
national leadership of the National Association of Small Farmers. She
hold a bachelors degree in agricultural engineering and a masters
degree in gender studies.

MERLI VANEGAS * Vancouver, BC, Canada
Lawyer of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Legal Consultant founder
of Citizen Power and other institutions, was a diplomat in Libya and
currently Venezuelan Consul General in Vancouver.

WENDY HOLM  *  Vancouver, BC, Canada
Professor of UBC’s International Field Studies in Sustainable
Agriculture (Cuba), economist, author and award winning journalist and
sustainability expert. Wendy is also the organizer of the Canada-Cuba
Farmer to Farmer Project.

TIM LOUIS * Vancouver, BC, Canada
Lawyer, former Vancouver City Counsellor and long-time supporter and
activist of social justice causes, including the freedom of the Cuban
5 political prisoners held in U.S. jails.

KELLY WHITE * Vancouver, BC, Canada,
Coast Salish Elder & Indigenous media activist.

ALI YEREVANI  *  Vancouver, BC, Canada
Political editor of the Fire This Time Newspaper, political editor of
the Battle of Ideas Press, and participant in the 1979 Iranian

Since the triumph of Cuba’s 1959 revolution to today, the vision and
political ideas that shape the Cuban revolution remain a source of
inspiration, discussion and debate around the world. Through the ideas
of Fidel, Che, the Cuban socialist project, and the dynamics of the
mass revolutionary movement, Cuba has become a country renowned for
its achievements in health, education,culture, science and many other
aspects of social and human progress. The Cuban socialist project and
the Cuban revolutionary leadership, despite 50 years of an inhuman and
criminal blockade by consecutive US administrations, have never
wavered to imperialist pressure. The annual International Che Guevara
Conference is an opportunity to discuss and debate the ideas of the
Cuban revolution, its dynamism and how it has impacted Latin America
and the world. This year's conference we will discuss the important
decisions and planning by the Cuban government  in 2010/2011 for the
transformation of Cuba's economic model as well as the different
aspects of these changes and their impact on different sectors of
Cuban society.

El viernes 2 de noviembre y el sábado 3 de noviembre, fueron dos días memorables de intervenciones,
discusiones y debates, así como de poesía, comida y música en vivo duranta la
5ª Conferencia Anual Internacional “Che Guevara” en Vancouver, Canadá. El
viernes en la noche dio inicio la Conferencia con el evento cultural “Volverán”
dedicado a la liberación de nuestros Cinco héroes cubanos. El sábado fue el
primer día de talleres y seminarios que incluyeron además de la música, a tres
dinámicos oradores de Cuba y Canadá que comentaron sobre el tema de la
conferencia este año “las reformas económicas en Cuba: Capitalismo o
Socialismo”. Los dos días han contado con una gran asistencia de público
diverso proveniente de diferentes comunidades y culturas. La presencia de
muchos jóvenes también fue notable tomando en cuenta que el punto de discusión
principal era cómo construir un futuro mejor para nuestro pueblo, y por
supuesto el ejemplo revolucionario de cuba.

Cónsul General de Cuba en Toronto, ON Canadá. Javier se graduó del

Ciencias Informáticas en 2009. Participó en las delegaciones cubanas
al Festival Mundial de la Juventud en 2005 en Venezuela y 2010 en
Suráfrica.

MANUEL YEPE  *  Habana, Cuba
Periodista y professor en el Instituto Superior de Relaciones
Internacionales de la Habana. Fue miembro del movimiento clandestino
26 de Julio en Matanzas que llevó al triunfo de la Revolución Cubana
en 1959 y trabajó directamente con Ernesto Che Guevara.

MAVIS DORA ALVAREZ * Habana, Cuba
Ingeniera en agricultura, educadora, quien asesora a cooperativas y
granjas familiares en Cuba. Durante 40 años ha sido líder de la
Asociación Nacional de Pequeños Granjeros. También cuenta con una
Maestría en Estudios de Género.

Abogada de la Asamblea Nacional de Venezuela, consultora juridica
fundadora del Poder Ciudadano y otras instituciones, fue  diplomática
en Libia y actualmente Cónsul General de Venezuela en Vancouver.

Profesora de la UBC en el campo de Estudios Internacionales en

Desde el triunfo de la Revolución Cubana en 1959 hasta nuestros días
la vision y las ideas políticas que formaron esa revolución han sido y
siguen siendo fuente de inspiración, discusión y debate alrededor del
mundo. A través de las ideas de Fidel, del Ché, el proyecto socialista
de Cuba y la dinámica del movimiento revolucionario de masas, Cuba se
ha convertido en un país renovado por sus logros en materia de salud,
educación, cultura, ciencia, y muchos otros aspectos del progreso
humano y social. El proyecto socialista de Cuba y el liderazgo
revolucionario cubano, a pesar de 50 años de un inhumano y criminal
bloqueo por parte de continuos gobiernos de los Estado Unidos, nunca
han cedido ante la presión imperialista. La Conferencia Anual
Internacional Ché Guevara es una oporunidad para discutir y debatir
las ideas de la Revolución Cubana, su dinámica y cómo ha impactado a
Latinoamérica y el mundo. En la conferencia de este año discutiremos
las importantes decisiones y la planificación hecha por el gobierno
cubano durante 2010 y 2011 para la transformación del modelo económico
de Cuba, así como los diferentes aspectos de estos cambios y su

Vendredi le 2 novembre
et samedi le 3 novembre, étaient deux jours mémorables de présentations, de discussions
et de débats, ainsi que la poésie, de la nourriture et de la musique pendant la
5ème Conférence Internationale Annuelle de Che Guevara à Vancouver, au Canada.
Vendredi soir la conférence a commencé avec "Volveran!" un événement
culturel consacre à la liberté de nos 5 héros cubains en prisons aux États-Unis.
Le samedi était le premier jour d'ateliers et comprenait un documentaire, la
musique et 3 ateliers qui ont mis en vedette des conférenciers dynamiques de
Cuba et du Canada qui ont plongé dans le thème de cette année "Les
Réformes Économiques de Cuba: Capitaliste ou Socialiste". Les deux jours
ont vu une grande participation avec des centaines de personnes de nombreuses communautés
et milieux différents. La présence de beaucoup de jeunes a également été remarquée
parce qu’une des points de discussion principal était de savoir comment
construire un avenir meilleur pour notre monde- et de l'exemple révolutionnaire
de Cuba bien sûr.

débat dans le monde entier. À travers les idées de Fidel et Che, le projet
socialiste Cubain, et le dynamisme du mouvement révolutionnaire du peuple
Cubain, Cuba est  devenue un pays renommé
pour ses  réalisations en matière de
santé, de l'éducation, de la culture, de la science et de nombreux autres
aspects du progrès social et humain. Malgré 50 ans de blocus économique  inhumain et criminel par les administrations
américaines, le projet socialiste Cubain et  la direction révolutionnaire

International Che  Guevara est une
