20th
Annual Che Guevara Volunteer Work Brigade Returns from Cuba!

This past weekend the 20th annual Che Guevara
Volunteer Work Brigade to Cuba came to a close. The 45 participants of the 2012
brigade arrived back home with photos, tans and social and political
experiences that will certainly last a lifetime.

The Brigade, organized by the Canadian Network on Cuba (CNC)
and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the People (ICAP) is an annual
volunteer trip to Cuba in order to provide people in Canada with an opportunity
to experience Cuba in a way that no tourist could experience.

The “Brigadistas” who came from all different ages and
backgrounds, this year volunteered in two exciting environments. First they got
busy helping with re-construction of homes which were damaged by hurricanes in
2008. For their second volunteer work the group got their hands dirty in the
soil working at one of Cuba’s famous organic gardens.

On May 1st, the Brigadistas marched with hundreds
of thousands of Cubans to celebrate International Workers Day, definitely a
highlight of the trip! They were also able to participate in the “Las Romerias”
festival which takes place every May in Holguín, Cuba. The festival was a huge
expose of Cuban art, dance, music and culture.

The Brigadistas have returned to Canada and are filled with
stories to tell! Please stay tuned for the upcoming Brigade Report Back event
which will feature Vancouver and B.C.’s Brigadistas reflecting on their trips with
the 20th Annual Che Guevara Volunteer Work Brigade to Cuba.

Come join in to learn more about the Brigade and prepare for
your participation next year!
