U.S. Personalities Demand Freedom for the Cuban Five

San Francisco, USA, May 26 (Prensa Latina) Artists, intellectuals and
scholars reiterated the demand for the release of four Cuban
antiterrorists imprisoned in U.S. jails and another held against his
will in this country.
The writer Alice Walker, actor Danny Glover and filmmaker Saul Landau,
among other U.S. personalities joined the Cuban intellectual Miguel
Barnet and a group of scholars of his country, who traveled to San
Francisco to participate in the 30th Congress of the Latin American
Studies Association (LASA), in the claim for the return of The Five to
their homeland…

WHO ARE THE 5 CUBAN HEROES?

Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González
and René González, also known as the Cuban 5, are currently serving
outrageously long sentences including even a double-life sentence plus
fifteen years. They were wrongly accused and convicted in a U.S.
Federal Court of “conspiracy to commit espionage” and other fabricated
charges. The 5 were actually unarmed men involved in monitoring
Miami-based terrorist organizations, which since 1959 have been
responsible for the deaths of over 3,400 people in Cuba, including one
resident of Canada, Fabio di Celmo, in 1997. Through their important
work, these 5 men were able to prevent further deaths in Cuba.

San Francisco, EEUU, 26 may (PL) Artistas, intelectuales y académicos
reiteraron la demanda para la liberación de cuatro activistas
antiterroristas cubanos presos en cárceles norteamericanas y otro
retenido contra su voluntad en este país.
La escritora Alice Walker, el artista Danny Glover y el cineasta Saúl
Landau, entre otras personalidades estadounidenses, se unieron al
intelectual cubano Miguel Barnet y un grupo de académicos de su país
en el reclamo para el regreso de los cinco a su patria…

QUIENES SON LOS 5 CUBANOS?

Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González
y René González son tambien conocidos como los 5 cubanos y estan
actualmente cumpliento injustamente largas sentencias incluyendo uno
sentencia doble de vida mas quince años. Ellos fueron acusados y
sentenciados por la Corte Federal de los Estados Unidos por “cometen
espionaje” y tambien por otros falsos cargos. Los 5 estaban desarmados
y estaban monitoreando organizaciones terroristas en Miami las cuales,
desde 1950, han sido responsables por las muertes a más de 3,400
personas en Cuba. Otra las victimas fue el Canadiense Fabio di Celmo
en 1997. Gracias a su heroico trabajo estos 5 hombres previnieron
futura muertes en Cuba.
