From December 2005, every month for 70 months human loving people and Cuba solidarity activists in Vancouver and British Columbia have come together to support the Cuban 5 heroes; the 5 innocent people who have spent many years in US prisons. As we said in December 2005, our protest to this injustice will continue until the 5 heroes are free. This September 12th 2011 will mark the 13th year of the unjust imprisonment of the 5 Cuban Heroes, Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Fernando González & René González. During this month, millions of supporters of the 5 around the world will be organizing activities demanding the immediate release of the 5 Cuban Heroes. The Free the Cuban 5 Committee-Vancouver is inviting you to participate in our 70th monthly picket action in front of the U.S. Consulate in Vancouver along with music, poetry, and art, to demand: 
FREE THE 5 CUBAN HEROES NOW! 

Right now is a crucial moment in the case of the Cuban 5. Gerardo Hernández, one of the 5 Cuban Heroes is currently nearing the end of his Habeas Corpus process, (filing a petition seeking release due to unlawful imprisonment) a process that could see freedom for Gerardo who faces the false and unjust charges of “conspiracy to commit espionage” and “conspiracy to commit murder.” Gerardo is currently serving 2 life sentences plus 15 years in prison. However the U.S. Government is currently blocking Gerardo from communication with his lawyers, Cuban officials and access to legal documents. We are asking all peace loving people to join with us as we also demand:

WHO ARE THE 5 CUBAN HEROES?
Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, also known as the Cuban 5, are currently serving four life sentences and 75 years collectively in United States prisons. They were wrongly accused and convicted in U.S. federal court of “conspiracy to commit espionage” and other related charges. The Cuban 5 were not spies. They were involved in monitoring Miami-based terrorist organizations which since 1959 have been responsible for the deaths of over 3,400 people in Cuba, including one resident of Canada, Fabio di Celmo, in 1997. Through their important work, these 5 men were able to prevent further deaths in Cuba.

These 5 Cuban Heroes harmed no one and are in prison for giving information they had collected to the U.S. government about these groups, hoping that the U.S. would intervene and jail the terrorists. However, instead of thanking the anti-terrorist Cuban 5, the U.S. Government put them in prison and in some cases is even denying them the right of family visitations, while the terrorist responsible for murdering 73 innocent passengers in the bombing of a Cuban airliner in 1976, Luis Posada Carriles, walks free in Miami.

Desde diciembre de 2005, cada mes por casi 70 meses activistas y personas de Vancouver y de British Columbia en solidaridad con Cuba se han unido para apoyar a los 5 Héroes Cubanos, quienes son cinco personas inocentes que se encuentran en prisiones estadounidenses desde hace varios años. Como lo dijimos desde diciembre del 2005, nuestra protesta a esta injusticia continuará hasta que los 5 Cubanos estén libres. Este 12 de septiembre de 2011, se cumplirán trece años del injusto encarcelamiento de los 5 Héroes Cubanos, Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González y René González. Durante este mes, millones de personas que apoyan a los 5 alrededor del mundo estarán organizando actividades para exigir la inmediata libertad de los 5 Héroes Cubanos. El Comité de Vancouver para la Liberación de los 5 Cubanos te invita a participar en su mes número setenta de protesta mensual afuera del Consulado de los Estados Unidos
 en Vancouver, habrá música, poesía y arte, para demandar:
¡LIBERTAD INMEDIATA A LOS 5 HÉROES CUBANOS!

Actualmente es un momento crucial para el caso de los 5. Gerardo Hernández, es uno de los 5 Héroes Cubanos que está llegando al final de su proceso Habeas Corpus (la presentación de una petición que busca su liberación debido a la detención ilegal) este proceso podría dar la libertad a Gerardo, quien enfrenta acusaciones falsas e injustas de “conspiración de espionaje” y “conspiración para cometer asesinato”.
Gerardo está cumpliendo dos cadenas perpetuas más 15 quince años de prisión. Y el gobierno estadounidense no le permite tener comunicación con sus abogados ni con funcionarios cubanos, y le niega el acceso a los documentos legales. 
Es por eso que les estamos pidiendo a todos aquellos amantes de la paz a unirse con nosotros para demandar:
¡FIN AL TRATO INJUSTO E ILEGAL A GERARDO HERNÁNDEZ!

¿QUIÉNES SON LOS 5 HÉROES CUBANOS?

Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, mejor conocidos como los 5 Cubanos, se encuentran cumpliendo en prisión cuatro cadenas perpetuas y 75 años colectivamente en prisiones estadounidenses. Ellos fueron erróneamente acusados y condenados en Estados Unidos por la Corte Federal por “conspiración y espionaje”, entre otros cargos relacionados. Los 5 no eran espías. Ellos estuvieron involucrados en el monitoreo de organizaciones terroristas con sede en Miami, organizaciones que desde 1959 han sido responsables de la muerte de más de 3,400 personas en Cuba, incluyendo un residente de Canadá, Fabio di Celmo, en 1997. A través de su importante labor, estos cinco hombres fueron capaces de evitar más muertes en Cuba.

Estos 5 Héroes Cubanos no dañaron a nadie y están en prisión por haber dado la información recogida al gobierno de Estados Unidos acerca de esos grupos, con la esperanza de que interviniera y encarcelará a los terroristas. Sin embargo, en lugar de que se les agradecería a los 5 Cubanos antiterroristas, el gobierno estadounidense los llevó a prisión e incluso en algunos casos se les niega el derecho a las visitas familiares, mientras que el terrorista responsable por el asesinato de 73 personas inocentes en el atentado contra un avión cubano en 1976, Luis Posada Carriles, anda libre en Miami.
