MAWO PUBLIC FORUM

International Women's Day:
The Role of Women in the Fight Against War & Occupation

*****************************
TUESDAY March 8
7:00pm
Joe's Cafe [In Large North Hall]
1150 Commercial Dr. at William St.
*****************************

This year is the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day, a day to celebrate the achievements of women around the globe in the pursuit of social justice and equality as well as to recognize how far women still have to go in the fight for women’s rights and a better world for all.

Over the last two months of mass movements and uprisings in North Africa and the Middle East, women have taken a powerful role. They have not only participated in the mass movements as demonstrators, chanters and security, but as leaders and organizers. On March 8th, Egyptians will mark IWD with a “one million women march.” In Afghanistan women face a brutal war and occupation, and the worsening of every day conditions because of it. The women of Afghanistan are continuing to show their strength, and to fight for an end to the US/NATO/Canada occupation of their country.

In Canada women are facing ongoing attacks, to name a few, the loss of funding for essential social services including the closing of day-care centers, shelters and health clinics, increasing poverty and violence and abuse against women, especially against Indigenous women.

Join Mobilization Against War and Occupation (MAWO) to discuss women's history in the fight for social justice and the continued central role of women in the struggle against war and occupation, and for a better world.
