MAWO PUBLIC FORUM
The Politics of Blockades
>From Gaza to Cuba:
The Flotilla, Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba and
Beyond
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
TUESDAY July 12
7:00pm
Joe's Cafe [In Large North Hall]
1150 Commercial Dr. at William St.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
In 1962 the US
government imposed a complete economic and travel blockade on Cuba. Almost
50 years later the blockade is still intact while peace loving people organize
to combat the blockade. In the Gaza Strip, the US, Canada, Israel
and their allies have imposed a blockade on more than 1.5 million people
following the 2006 election, when Hamas won the Palestinian vote in a landslide
victory. Like in Cuba, peace loving people across the globe have organized to end this criminal
blockade on Gaza.
Join us this Tuesday to discuss:
>>Why have the imperialist forces
used blockades against independent nations?
>>What are similarities between the
two blockades imposed on Palestinians in Gaza and the Cuban
people?
>>What is the purpose behind the
Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba?
>>What is the purpose of activists in
Canada and around the world organizing the Gaza Flotilla?
>>What should the position of the antiwar
movement be toward all blockades and sanctions by imperialist powers?
Screening 1 hour of documentary and news clips followed by speaker and
discussion.
Speaker: Thomas Davies
Executive Committee member of Vancouver
Communities in Solidarity with Cuba (VCSC), organizer with the Solidarity
Coalition for a United Latin America (SCULA), journalist & social justice
activist
