The US/Canada/NATO war and occupation of Afghanistan saw record levels of civilian killings and massacres in 2010. The pain and suffering in Afghanistan caused by this war and occupation is on the same path in 2011. Through this madness the top US General in Afghanistan, David Petraeus, stated on January 25 that the occupiers are making victories on every front in Afghanistan. One must ask what does a victory to the US mean in Afghanistan, when according to the Afghan Interior Ministry, January 2011 has already been one of the deadliest months of the war for Afghan civilians.

With the government of Canada recently stating it will remain in Afghanistan until at least 2014, and with the number of foreign troops occupying Afghanistan at its highest, what sort of prospect or future is there for this occupied land. As protests in Afghanistan against the occupation of their country continue to build, the international antiwar and peace movement must come together to echo that message.

Mobilization Against War & Occupation (MAWO) will be changing our monthly antiwar demonstration and petition campaign in order to fully support and endorse a demonstration supporting the heroic mass movements in Tunisia and Egypt and other North African and Middle Eastern countries.The rally is being organized by the Tunisian and Egyptian communities to defend the popular uprising and mass movements that have overthrown the President of Tunisia, and are challenging the governments in Egypt and other North African and Middle Eastern countries.

Following the demonstration MAWO will continue with our previously planned petition campaign in front of the Vancouver Public Library. Our antiwar petitioning will be calling for an end to Canada’s war and occupation in Afghanistan.
