4th ANNUAL VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL CHE GUEVARA CONFERENCE
“CUBA TODAY: The Gains & Challenges”
Vancouver, BC, Canada
Conference: November 11-12, 2011
Special Cuban 5 Heroes exhibition and event: November 13, 2011

With Special Guest:
DR. ALEIDA GUEVARA
Cuban Leader, Prominent Author and Daughter of Legendary Revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara

For the past 3 years Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba (VCSC) has brought together speakers from across Canada, the United States, Cuba and around the world to discuss the development of the ideas of Ernesto Che Guevara and the gains of the Cuban revolution. The conference began in 2008 in honour of Che’s 80th birthday. Each conference has held a unique theme, the first conference “Che Guevara: Thinker & Fighter - Are His Ideas Relevant for the 21st Century?”, 2009 conference “50 years of Dynamism of the Cuban Revolution” and 2010 conference “Cuba & Revolutionary Internationalism“. These three historic events which debated and discussed the importance of the Cuban revolution and the Cuba solidarity movement worldwide from the point of view of activists and revolutionaries, were the only of their kind in Canada. We are pleased that in the last three years we have brought out more than 1,200 people, 30 speakers, and 25 different
subjects surrounding the Cuban revolution and its internal and external dynamics.

The 2011 conference, coming up November 11-12 will be no different. Entitled, “CUBA TODAY: The Gains & Challenges” this conference will feature many important guests, including our honoured guest for the second year in a row, Dr. Aleida Guevara, Cuban Leader, Prominent Author and Daughter of Legendary Revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara.

Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba will also be working with the Free the Cuban 5 Committee – Vancouver to co-organize a special event following the conference on Sunday November 13, 2011. This event will be a cultural celebration, of the heroic struggle for freedom of our 5 Cuban Heroes held in United States prisons. It will feature poetry, live music and dance performances. We will also be honoured to showcase artwork by the 5 Heroes.
