2010 was the deadliest year in the 9 year long
war and occupation of Afghanistan.
So far this year Afghans face the same civilian killings and destruction by the
130 000 foreign occupying troops. The latest was on April 26 when NATO forces
shot dead two Afghan civilians who were riding a motorcycle in Ghazni Province.
This followed an April 20 NATO airstrike in the Province of Kunar
which killed up to 17 Afghan civilians, including an infant. Canada’s participation in the war in Afghanistan
has seen 155 Canadian soldiers killed, and hundreds more injured. 

 

With the upcoming May 2nd federal election
in Canada,
not one of the major political parties have made the war an election issue. The
Conservatives, Liberals, NDP and the Bloc Quebecois have had their lips sealed
on the nearly 10 year long brutal war and occupation of Afghanistan.
With the government of Canada
extending its war in Afghanistan
until at least 2014, their appears to be no end in sight. As civilian killings
continue to rise it is as important as ever for peace loving people in Canada to make the war in Afghanistan an
election issue. Join us on April 27 for the 73rd MAWO picket to
