On October seventh, 2010, Afghanistan will have seen nine years of brutal war and occupation. Has life gotten better for Afghan people, as the occupation forces claimed it would with excuses of “reconstruction” and “democracy building?” Reports constantly show the picture of life in Afghanistan as one of civilian massacres, destruction of infrastructure, a dead-locked puppet government, and severe unemployment, poverty, and lack of health services. A recent UN report shows that civilian deaths have jumped by 31 percent in the first half of 2010. What are some of the atrocities that contribute to these deaths? US-led forces have been accused of killing over 30 people during an air and ground assault in the eastern Laghman Province on Friday September 24th. Recent reports uncover that four US soldiers formed a group to kill “for fun” and confessed to killing several innocent Afghans out of “pure hatred.”

Here at home the government of Canada's excuses for the war on Afghanistan are becoming more and more a tired story that is less and less believable. In a recent poll by the TV network “Canada's Pulse” 61% of respondents said that all Canadian troops need to come home. 38% say that the 152 Canadian soldiers who died there did so in vain.

As long as foreign soldiers remain in Afghanistan, peace-loving people in Canada and around the world must unite in protest to demand an end to this criminal war and occupation.

(( 2 )) CONDEMN THE FBI RAIDS AGAINST ANTIWAR & SOCIAL JUSTICE ACTIVISTS!

Picket Action:
MONDAY October 4
4 to 5 pm
United States Consulate
1075 West Pender Street
Downtown Vancouver

On Friday September 24th, the FBI raided eight homes and offices of antiwar and social justice activists in Chicago and Minneapolis. The FBI agents seized books, music CD’s, photographs, computers, cell phones, check books, papers, cameras and every other items that could contain information and saved data.

This undemocratic and suppressive action against antiwar and peace activists has been denounced and condemned by numerous antiwar and social justice organizations in the United States. In a response to an emergency call to action by groups in Chicago and Minneapolis, in the last few days thousands of people in 20 cities in the US have mobilized on the streets against these attacks in front of Federal Buildings and FBI offices, and actions in over 33 cities are being organized since the FBI raids.

Mobilization Against War & Occupation (MAWO) joins this call to action, and condemns the FBI raids against antiwar and social justice activists. We must stand united in face of these harassment and intimidation tactics. FBI attacks on antiwar groups in Chicago and Minneapolis are not just an attack on one organization but more importantly are an attack on the entire working, poor and oppressed people not only in the United States but the whole antiwar movement around the world. We antiwar and social justice activists must join this protest not just for the unity of struggle against war and occupation but also as we have had our own attacks on democratic and civil rights by police and security forces in Canada since September 11, 2001 (9/11), on antiwar activists and the Muslim community.

Mobilization Against War & Occupation (MAWO) invites you to join us in a picket line in front of the US consulate in Vancouver to protest the raids on antiwar and peace activists in the US during this urgent time. We must respond strongly to this attack in order to establish that the antiwar movement will not be broken by intimidation and suppressive tactics. Expanding democratic rights can not be achieved without defending the existing ones.
