The first two days of the Hip Hop 4 Peace Festival were a great success, with crowds chanting “We love hip hop! No to war!” to the beats of an array of talented artists. The festival opened Friday with “Project Peace & the New West Boogaloo” at the Douglas College Students' Union Lounge. On Saturday the crowds put their peace signs up in the sunshine at the Vancouver Art Gallery for “Vancity Beats, Peace in the Streets!” Sunday promises to be a amazing final day of the festival. Highlights include a forum featuring artists reflecting on why Hip Hop is a part of fighting for a better world, tutorials to learn breakdance and how to MC, and a headliners showcase! >From the 5 Burroughs of New York in the mid-seventies to across the entire 
planet today, Hip Hop continues to be a culture immersed in the struggle for a 
better world. If Peace is the message, then Hip Hop is the voice…

On September 24th to 26th the Greater Vancouver area will host for the 6th 
consecutive year the Annual Vancouver International Hip Hop Festival – HIP HOP 
FOR PEACE! The Festival will be three days of performances by local and 
international talent including MC’s, Breakdancers, DJ’s and Graffiti artists.

There will be workshops and tutorials teaching participants how to rap, 
breakdance and give insight into the history of Graffiti culture and its 
significance today. It will be a base camp for community forums discussing youth 
activism, women’s rights, Indigenous struggle, Hip Hop’s rise to an 
international stage and its growth alongside the movement for peace, equality 
and social justice. It will be showcase of some of the freshest artists in Hip 
Hop culture today, and most importantly it will once again be free and all ages!

Over the last 6 years the Festival has grown into one of the most significant 
events of its kind. What makes this even more amazing is that it is completely 
built, organized, sponsored, and supported by communities of youth, families and 
regular working people from Downtown Vancouver, Canada to Havana, Cuba! This 
festival has been committed from its very onset to being as accessible, diverse, 
creative and idealistic as the human imagination and will can envision.

Hip Hop for Peace is the culmination of the skills of hundreds of artists from 
across the world, the generous support and endorsement of hundreds of sponsors 
from retail stores to municipalities, broad media coverage from local to global 
carriers and the dedication to reaching out with art dedicated to bringing about 
peace!

Ya han pasado los dos primeros días de la sexta edicion del Festival Hip Hop por la Paz los cuales han sido un gran éxito, con la multitud gritando "Nos encanta el hip hop! No a la guerra! "al ritmo de una gran variedad de talentosos artistas, el festival se inauguró el viernes con el "Proyecto de la Paz y el Boogaloo New West" en El Salón de la Unión de Estudiantes de Douglas College. El sábado las multitudes mostraron sus deceos de paz levantando los dedos en dirección a la luz del Sol en la Galería de Arte de Vancouver al mismo tiempo que sonaban los Beats del Rap de Vancity, la paz estaba en las calles.


El domingo promete ser un día increíble, clausura del festival en la que se destacan como principales actividades; un foro de artistas para reflexionar sobre por qué el Hip Hop es una parte de la lucha por un mundo mejor; talleres para aprender Break Dance y el arte del MC y por último un gran Concierto con los mas importantes exponentes del Hip Hop en Vancouver y la presencia de Obsesion, pioneros del Hip Hop en la Isla de Cuba.

Desde los cinco distritos de la ciudad Nueva York a mediados de los años setenta 
hasta la actualidad y alrededor del mundo, el Hip Hop sigue siendo una cultura 
inmersa en la lucha por la construcción de un mundo mejor. Si la Paz es el 
mensaje, entonces, Hip Hop es la voz…

Se llevará acabo del 24 al 26 de septiembre en Vancouver el sexto año 
consecutivo del Festival Internacional Anual de Vancouver --¡HIP HOP POR LA PAZ! 
Serán tres días de festival con presencia de locales e internacionales talentos 
como MC’s, Breakdancers, DJ’s y artistas de Graffiti.

Habrá talleres con maestros para todos aquellos participantes que quieran 
aprender a rapear, a bailar Break Dance; y se estará hablando acerca de la 
historia de la cultura del Graffitti y su significado en la actualidad. Este 
evento será también un espacio donde la comunidad pueda discutir temas como: el 
activismo entre los jóvenes, los derechos de las mujeres, la lucha indígena, la 
presencia del Hip Hop en el escenario internacional y su importancia en el 
movimiento por la paz, la igualdad y la justicia social. Se contará con la 
participación de artistas reconocidos de la escena cultural del Hip Hop de hoy 
en día, y lo más importante es que será un evento para todas las edades y con 
entrada libre y gratuita.

En los últimos seis años el festival ha crecido hasta convertirse en uno de los 
eventos más importantes de su tipo. ¡Y lo que lo hace aún más grande es que es 
que está completamente construido, organizado, patrocinado y apoyado por la 
comunidad de jóvenes, familias y por la misma gente desde Vancouver, Canadá 
hasta la Habana, Cuba! Este festival se ha destacado también por su 
accesibilidad, diversidad, creatividad e idealización como la imaginación y la 
voluntad humana solamente pueden hacerlo posible.

El Hip Hop por la Paz es la culminación de las habilidades de cientos de 
artistas de todo el mundo; del generoso apoyo y respaldo de cientos de 
patrocinadores, desde tiendas al por menor hasta municipales; de medios de 
comunicación tanto locales como globales, y de la dedicación y esfuerzo por 
construir paz a través del arte.
