October 7, 2010 marked 9 years that Canada, the US, and NATO have militarily occupied Afghanistan. As the war enters its tenth year the occupation forces are deadlocked with what to do: the death of Afghan civilians continues to rise, the corruption and problems with opium production are out of control, and the corrupt puppet Afghan government dwindles with minimal national support. It is being reported today that the Afghan government dismissed 23% of the votes in the recent election.

On October 17 a US airstrike in Baghlan Province killed at least 18 civilians. Then, reportedly on October 19 another US attack killed 12 more civilians in the Gwari district of Kandahar sparking more anger and resentment to the occupation forces. With more and more of these civilian killings by the US/NATO forces, it is no surprise that 2010 is already the deadliest year for both US and NATO troops in Afghanistan, with more than two months remaining in the year.

This occupation needs to end, and Afghanistan must be able to decide its own future. MAWO is encouraging peace loving people to join the picket action, and demand:

SELF DETERMINATION FOR AFGHANISTAN NOW!
