FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CANADA OUT OF AFGHANISTAN NOW!
US/UK OUT OF IRAQ NOW!

ANTIWAR RALLY & PETITION DRIVE
Saturday, March 27
2:00pm
Vancouver Art Gallery
750 Hornby St., Vancouver, BC

Press Contact: Andrew Barry, MAWO Co Chair: 604.780.4029

2010 is on pace to be the deadliest year for US and other occupying troops in
Afghanistan. The recently launched Operation Moshtarak in the southern Afghan
province of Helmand has exposed how much of a quagmire the US, Canada, and their
allies are in Afghanistan. Hundreds of Afghan civilians have already been the
victims of the recent war escalation by US, Canada, and NATO airstrikes and
shootings.

On March 26 the top US commander in Afghanistan Stanley McChrystal admitted that
"We have shot an amazing number of people, but to my knowledge, none has ever
proven to be a threat."

MAWO co chair Andrew Barry's responded to McChrystal's admitting of civilian
killings by saying "this is not surprising. We have said all along for the last
seven years that Canada, the US and NATO are killing Afghan civilians. And now
they are openly admitting it." Mr. Barry continued "and that's why it's our
human obligation to protest and call for an end to this criminal war and
occupation in Afghanistan immediately. Our demand is bring Canadian troops home
now!"

For more information on the rally or to arrange an interview with a MAWO
spokesperson, please contact Andrew Barry at 604.780.4029.
