The Vancouver International Film Festival 4 Peace is back in Vancouver for the
8th year, to promote peace and the self-determination of oppressed nations. This
is a truly one-of-a-kind film festival for peace, the only one running for 8
consecutive years around the world. The festival features a unique collection
of documentaries and films, spanning the globe from Latin America to Africa,
the Middle East to Asia, and from Europe to here in North America.  MAWO’s annual festival will be screening the
reality of war and occupation, and will bring to light the struggle for self
determination and social justice being fought by hundreds of millions of people
around the world. Audiences will be taken back in time through special featured
great anti-war classics which highlight each morning, with “Young Lions” on
Saturday and “Catch 22” on Sunday. You will also be one of the first to see
Vancouver premieres like “Quien Dijo Miedo? (Who’s Afraid)” about the ongoing
struggle of the Honduran people after the coup. 



>From the Britannia Community Centre Auditorium, see the world through different
eyes. See Afghanistan through the eyes of a young man who sees his people
occupied, or Iraq through the eyes of a child whose school is now a foreign
military post. Feel the horror of a young soldier who realizes that he is
committing atrocities in an invading army sent to kill, not "help."
Feel the dignity of a Palestinian mother who refuses to accept occupation for
her people's children, and the hope of an Indigenous Bolivian who fights for a
new life in her land. 



Special opening presentations will highlight each day, as well as guest
presenters via video feed including Ramsey Clark, former United States Attorney
General, long-time peace and social justice advocate and author of The Fire This Time: U.S. War Crimes in the
Gulf, Sara Flounders, coordinator of the prominent International Action
Center (IAC) in the U.S., and Brian Becker, national director of the largest
anti-war coalition in the U.S., 
A.N.S.W.E.R. (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism).  There will also be art exhibitions and a
political and cultural information section.  


Admission is free, and food and refreshments
will be available.

El Festival Internacional de Cine por la Paz cautivará una vez más al público
de Vancouver en su octava edición. Este Festival anual promueve la paz a través
de una colección única de documentales y películas. Y a su vez, trae a la
pantalla grande una muestra de la realidad de la guerra y la ocupación, como
así también saca a la luz la lucha por la libre determinación y la justicia
social de miles de personas alrededor del mundo. El Festival Internacional de
Cine de Vancouver por la Paz exhibe anualmente películas de distintas regiones
del mundo desde América Latina hasta Africa, del Medio Oriente hasta Asia, y
desde Europa hasta este lado de América del Norte. El público será llevado de
regreso al tiempo de los clásicos y será el primero en ver algunos estrenos.



Desde el auditorio del Britannia Community Centre podrás ver el mundo a través
de diferentes ojos. Verás en Afganistán a través de los ojos de un joven que ve
a su pueblo ocupado militarmente o Irak a través de los ojos de un niño que
vive la transformación de su escuela en una base militar extranjera. Sentirás
el horror de un joven soldado que se da cuenta de las atrocidades que está
cometiendo junto con el ejército invasor que es enviado a matar y no a
“ayudar”. Sentirás también la dignidad de una madre palestina que se niega
aceptar la ocupación como una realidad para sus hijos, y la esperanza de una
mujer indígena boliviana que lucha por una nueva vida en su tierra. Por
supuesto la Resistencia a estos ataques, la fuerza y la lucha de la humanidad
se reflejan a lo largo de este festival.



Habrá presentaciones especiales de apertura en cada día del evento e invitados
presentando los diferentes documentales y películas, exposiciones de arte y
mucho más. La entrada es libre y gratuita, y estarán disponibles alimentos y
bebidas.
