Report Back from Holguín, Cuba & the 6th Intl Colloquium for the Release of the 5 and Against Terrorism!

The very successful 6th International Colloquium for the release of the Cuban 5 held in U.S. prisons took place from November 17th-22nd 2010 in Holguín, Cuba. Over 300 delegates representing over 50 countries came together to help plan and organize the world-wide campaign to free the 5 Cuban Heroes who have been unjustly held in U.S. prisons for over 12 years.   

Please join us for a report from the International Colloquium that will be presented by two members of the Free the Cuban 5 Committee-Vancouver who travelled to Cuba to be part of the this important event. The report will include documentary and multimedia from the case and the conference.

WHO ARE THE 5 CUBAN HEROES?

Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, also known as the Cuban 5, are currently serving four life sentences and 75 years collectively in United States prisons. They were wrongly accused and convicted in U.S. federal court of “conspiracy to commit espionage” and other related charges. The Cuban 5 were not spies. They were involved in monitoring Miami-based terrorist organizations which since 1959 have been responsible for the deaths of over 3,400 people in Cuba, including one resident of Canada, Fabio di Celmo, in 1997. Through their important work, these 5 men were able to prevent further deaths in Cuba.

These 5 Cuban Heroes harmed no one and are in prison for giving information they had collected to the U.S. government about these groups, hoping that the U.S. would intervene and jail the terrorists. However, instead of thanking the anti-terrorist Cuban 5, the U.S. Government put them in prison and in some cases is even denying them the right of family visitations, while the terrorist responsible for murdering 73 innocent passengers in the bombing of a Cuban airliner in 1976 walks free in Miami. 

September 12, 2010 marked the 12th year of the unjust imprisonment of the Cuban 5. Also in Vancouver on December 9 we will mark the 5 anniversary of our monthly picket actions in Vancouver to demand their release! It is time to put an end to their unjust imprisonment - please join us!

Reporte del VI Coloquio Internacional por la Liberación de los 5 y contra el terrorismo, Holguin Cuba

El sexto exitoso Coloquio Internacional por la Liberación de los 5 Cubanos presos en EE.UU., se llevó acabo del 17 al 22 de noviembre del 2010 en Holguín, Cuba. Alrededor de 300 delegados en representación de más de cincuenta países se unieron para ayudar a planificar y organizar la campaña mundial para la liberación de los 5 Héroes Cubanos que han sido injustamente encarcelados en prisiones de EE.UU. por más de 12 años.

Por favor únete a nosotros para el reporte del Coloquio Internacional que será presentado por dos miembros del Comité  de Vancouver para la Liberación de los 5, quienes viajaron a Cuba para formar parte de este importante evento. El reporte incluirá documentales y multimedia de la conferencia.

¿QUIÉNES SON LOS 5 HEROES CUBANOS?

Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Fernando González y René González, también conocidos como los 5 Cubanos se encuentran actualmente cumpliendo cuatro cadenas perpetuas y setenta y cinco años colectivamente en las cárceles de los Estados Unidos. Ellos fueron acusados injustamente y condenados en un tribunal de los EE. UU. por conspiración y espionaje, y otros cargos relacionados. Los 5 Cubanos no eran espías. Ellos estuvieron involucrados en el control de las organizaciones terroristas con base en Miami que desde 1959 han sido responsables por las muertes de más de 3,400 personas en Cuba, incluyendo a un residente de Canadá, Fabio di Celmo en 1997. Por su importante trabajo estos cinco hombres  fueron capaces de prevenir muertes en Cuba.

Estos 5 Héroes Cubanos no dañaron a nadie y están en prisión por haber entregado información al gobierno de los EE.UU. acerca de lo que habían investigado respecto a esos grupos terroristas, esperando que el gobierno de los EE. UU. encarcelara a los verdaderos terroristas. Sin embargo, en vez de agradecer a los 5 anti-terroristas cubanos, el gobierno de los EE.UU. los puso en prisión e incluso en algunos casos  les niega el derecho a las visitas familiares, mientras que los terroristas responsables por el asesinato de setenta y tres personas inocentes en una aerolínea cubana en 1976 se pasean  libremente en Miami.

El día 12 de septiembre se cumplieron 12 años del injusto encarcelamiento de los Cinco Héroes Cubanos. El próximo 9 de diciembre de 2010 será también el quinto aniversario de nuestras acciones de protesta en Vancouver ¡Exigiendo la liberación de los 5!
¡Es hora de poner fin a su injusto encarcelamiento!
