Sobre Karla Lara:

Karla Lara, Hondureña de nacimiento, irrumpió en la escena musical en 1986 como cantante en el grupo popular "Rascaniguas" y más tarde en el famoso grupo salvadoreño "Cutumay CamoKnes", grupo que  acompañó la lucha política durante la brutal guerra civil de ese país. Karla regresó a Honduras para unirse a grupos musicales  que usan la música como una expresión de rebeldía,  allí fue miembro fundador de "Doble-Via" y "Trovason".

Hablar de Karla Lara es contar la historia de muchas mujeres, y  quizás esa sea la intención,  que muchas mujeres puedan reflejarse en sus canciones, la crudeza de su realidad cotidiana en contraste con la esperanza y la alegría en que una mujer puede luchar por sus derechos.

Karla es parte de un movimiento amplio y diverso de jóvenes músicos y músicas hondureñas que cree en la necesidad de crear música Hondureña con historia propia, ritmo propio y con el orgullo de ser parte de una nueva generación que trabaja para la dignidad del país.

En diciembre del 2004, Karla presentó su primer disco “Donde andar”, que reúne muchos de los temas  ella ha apoyado y sobre los que ha cantado durante años. Desde esa fecha su música la ha llevado a muchos lugares, desde pueblos olvidados en Honduras hasta en los EE.UU., Copenhague y Dinamarca.

En diciembre del 2008 Karla grabó su segundo álbum “Antes del Puente ", “un álbum que le ayudará a construir identidad, a dejarnos sentir, a través de historias, personajes y lugares comunes de nuestro  país, un sentido de pertenencia, que marca la diferencia en la forma  que ella diseña su participación en la construcción de un tipo diferente de ciudadanía ".

En la actualidad Karla es parte de la primera banda de feministas de América Central, “CantArte Vida” que ha dado conciertos en Guatemala y Honduras.

Karla es muy activa políticamente es miembro de Artistas y Feministas en Resistencia. Esto no es  nuevo, su vida artística ha estado siempre ligada a las corrientes políticas en América Central.

About Karla Lara:

Honduran native Karla Lara broke into the music scene in 1986 as a singer in the popular group "Rascaniguas"  and later with the famous Salvadoran group "Cutumay Camones" that accompanied the political struggle during the country’s brutal civil war. She returned to Honduras to join bands intending to harness music as a form of rebellion, where she was a founding member of "Doble-Via" and "Trovason". 

To speak of Karla Lara is to tell the story of many women, or maybe that is only the intention: that many women can see their reflection in her songs, in the harshness of their reality in contrast with the hope and joy that a woman can fight for her rights. 

Karla is part of an extensive and diverse movement of young Honduran musicians that believes in the need to create Honduran music with its own history, own rhythm, and pride of being part of a new generation that builds dignity in the country.

In December 2004, she presented her first album, Donde andar, which brings together many of the issues that she has supported and sung about for years. To date, her music has brought her to various other venues, from forgotten villages in Honduras to cities across the US and Copenhagen, Denmark. 

In December 2008 she recorded her second album, Antes del Puente, "an album that will help to build identity, to allow ourselves to feel, through stories, clichés and characters of our country, a sense of belonging, which we believe makes the difference in how you design your participation in the construction of a different kind of citizenship." 

She is currently part of the first Central American feminist band, CantArte Vida, that has performed in Guatemala and Honduras. 

Karla is very politically active and is a member of Artists and Feminists in Resistance. This work is not new, as her artistic life has always been linked to political currents in Central America.
