2009 has been another devastating year for Afghans as the foreign occupation has intensified with more occupying troops resulting in more pain and misery. Richard Colvin, Canada’s former second in command at the Canadian embassy in Afghanistan, released information last week detailing how Canadian forces handed over detainees to be tortured in Afghanistan. But the cover up goes deeper. The Ottawa Citizen reports that ‘the Canadian Attorney General is threatening prosecution if [Colvin] dares to answer a parliamentary committee’s request to see documents he wrote about detainee abuse and torture in Afghanistan’. 
 
The response of the Obama administration and its allies to the ongoing escalation of pain and misery for Afghans is to flood the country with upwards of 40,000 more troops. As Afghans continue to stand up and resist this ongoing occupation, it is becoming more important for people in Canada to join their Afghan brothers and sisters to protest the war and occupation.
