For 50 years, the Cuban people have been asserting their basic right to self-determination, while under constant and ongoing imperialist attacks on their sovereignty from the US government.

The US threat is as close as on Cuba’s own land, as the US continues to occupy Guantanamo Bay, where the US has a naval base and notorious detention camp. The US government year after year tightens its primary act of war against Cuba ~ the unjust and immoral blockade that not only doesn’t allow travel or trade between the US and Cuba, but also makes Cuba’s trade with other countries difficult and expensive.

US government supported anti Cuban terrorists and mercenaries have killed 3,400 innocent Cuban’s over the last 50 years, with crimes ranging from the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasions, to livestock poisoning, to the bombing of a Cuban airplane in 1976 which killed 73 people. Cuba defended their national security by sending 5 Cuban men to investigate anti Cuban terrorist groups in Miami responsible for these crimes. Yet, although the information collected was shared with the FBI, these 5 Cuban heroes were arrested, subjected to a kangaroo court, and have been in US jails for over 10 years.

Despite the over 50 years of this US war against Cuba, this small proud island has stood up against these attacks and strived to create a better world not only in Cuba but around the world. Join MAWO to discuss Cuba’s struggle against US imperialism, the many gains they have made in the face of aggression, and why the antiwar movement needs to campaign against the US ongoing threat against Cuba, and occupation of Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.
