On Monday June 8th, yet another Canadian solider was killed in Kandahar, Afghanistan, bringing the death toll of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan to 119. For over three years now the majority of people in Canada have been opposed to Canada’s war and occupation in Afghanistan, according to different official and private polls. MAWO’s Canada Out of Afghanistan Campaign has collected so far more than 14,000 signature in the Lower Mainland alone. More and more people in Canada are questioning why the government of Canada is conducting this brutal and criminal war drive in Afghanistan, and what they have achieved in eight years of bombs, tanks, bullets, and weapons whose purpose is to kill.
 
On Monday June 8th, the US military admitted that they had made mistakes in the May 4th air strikes in Farah, Afghanistan. So called mistakes is how they excuse the terrorizing of Afghan people and indiscriminate killing on May 4th, in what is the deadliest massacre in Afghanistan since the 2001 invasion, which killed over 140 innocent Afghan people. The ongoing massacre of Afghan people has been met with protests and demonstrations from people across Afghanistan, including the Sunday May 17th protest by hundreds of Kabul University students. These protests carry the strong demand for “Foreign Troops Out of Afghanistan Now!” 
 
This war and occupation of Afghanistan is part of a world wide strategy of imperialist countries to exploit and plunder the resources of oppressed and weak nations. Afghanistan and its people are the first major victim of this vicious and criminal strategy. Without a doubt, all the facts and indications prove that Canada’s war and occupation of Afghanistan is based on colonialist interests and ambitions. While the US, Canada and other imperial countries are taking the whole of humanity towards the pit of death and destruction, we, human loving people and peace activists, are raising our efforts to stop this madness. It is a great truth that after eight years of occupation of Afghanistan, people in Canada and in Afghanistan are united together on the demand of Canada Out of Afghanistan Now! Mobilization Against War & Occupation (MAWO) stands alongside the people of Afghanistan and Canada in unity with this demand.
 
MAWO is organizing its 55th protest picket action this coming Thursday, in front of the Canadian Armed Forces Recruitment Center. We are picketing not only to show solidarity and sympathy with the people of Afghanistan, but also to continue to build a strong and effective opposition to stop the killing and genocide of the Afghan people.
