What is the Pastors for Peace Caravan? Since 1992, Pastors for Peace Caravans to Cuba have called international attention to the cruel and immoral US blockade of Cuba by travelling from the US to deliver humanitarian aid to the Cuban people, breaking US law. The blockade causes shortages of food, medicine and other important supplies for over 11 million people in Cuba. It is an immoral policy that uses hunger and disease as political weapons. Every year the Caravan takes aid and “Caravanistas” from Canada, the United States and around the world, on a campaign across the US to raise awareness about this unjust policy, and then on to Cuba where the aid is delivered and Caravanistas have a chance to see revolutionary Cuba first-hand. 

The celebration will feature special guest speaker:
LISA VALENTI - National President of the U.S.-Cuba Sister Cities Association and participant in all 20 Pastors for Peace Caravans to Cuba, including a successful hunger strike for 94 days to release U.S.-seized aid bound for Cuba

Also:
JOAQUIN ERNESTO – will bring inspiring guitar music from around the world
ALEJANDRO MUJICA-OLEA - will enthuse with his heart-felt poems
DILIA OCHOA – will share her moving poetry
SHAKEEL LOCHAN – aims to change the way you think with his spoken word poems
SEONAID LAMB - will share poetry inspired by life
LUIS VELASQUEZ - with moving poems about events around the world
MAX TENNANT - will share poems about his experience on the P4P Caravan to Cuba


** The event will also involve a potluck dinner (please bring a dish to share)!

((2)) PASTORS FOR PEACE CARAVAN TO CUBA BORDER CROSSING

Picnic and Rally
SUNDAY JULY 5 2009  
Peace Arch Park US-Canada Border
White Rock, BC / Blaine, WA
12 noon

On July 5 2009 the Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba will begin its trip from Canada, through the Unites States, and into Mexico, where aid bound for Cuba will be loaded onto boats and sent to Cuba. Caravanistas will fly from Mexico to Cuba and spend a week there learning about Cuba and seeing first-hand the impacts of the US blockade on Cuba. 

Every year Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba and our supporters join the Caravan at the border to wave our Cuban flags and hold signs challenging the US blockade on Cuba. Every year the US border services have the legal right to refuse the caravan entry to the US. We need a strong presence at the border to ensure the border service agency will let the Cuba bound Caravan through!
