On Saturday January 17th Israel declared a unilateral ceasefire, halting the brutal 22 day siege against Gaza which included bombing and assault by Israeli ground, air and sea forces. This genocidal attack by the Israeli Zionist army killed over 1,300 people, including over 400 children, and wounded at least 5,500. This Israeli ceasefire did not guarantee the withdrawal of Israeli troops, which subsequently have been partially withdrawn from Gaza, and does not guarantee the opening of border crossings and lifting of Israel’s crippling 19 month blockade on Gaza which is still in effect. Israel’s ceasefire was followed by the Sunday January 18th Hamas declaration of ceasefire, with the condition that within one week Israel must withdraw troops from Gaza and end the blockade on Gaza.Since the ceasefire, the over 100,000 displaced Palestinian families have been returning to their homes to discover the aftermath of this siege ~ at least 100 more bodies
found in the rubble, at least 4,000 homes destroyed, and an estimate of at least $2 billion in damages.

Is this the end of Israeli attacks on the Palestinian people? Avital Leibovich, an Israeli military spokesperson, stated on Sunday January 18 that ‘The operation is not over. This is only a holding of fire.’ This ceasefire is also not the end of the Palestinian struggle for self determination, and is not the end of the protests and organizing of peace loving people around the world to demand that the Israeli army lift the blockade, as well as completely and immediately withdraw from Gaza.

For over 100 years of Zionist migration and settlements in Palestine , and over 60 years Israeli occupation, Palestinians have struggled against suffering, killing and terrorism by Zionist forces. To understand the current crisis in Gaza , it is necessary to look at the history of the Zionist encroachment and later occupation of Palestine . Please join us for this presentation and discussion on the history of occupied Palestine, the recent siege and genocide against Gaza, what this ceasefire means for Palestinian people, and if Israel achieved what they had set out as their so called goals.
