PUBLIC FORUM:
Honduras at the Crossroads, What’s Next?
WEDNESDAY December 2
6:30pm
Joe's Cafe in Large North Hall
1150 Commercial Drive (at William Street)
On November 29, 2009, the US backed coup government in Honduras held presidential elections. This came five months after the Honduran military overthrew Manuel Zelaya, the democratically elected President in a coup d’etat. The United States government says it recognizes the elections while the majority of Latin American countries refuse to.
What does this mean for the Honduran people and President Zelaya? How will the Honduran crisis effect the other progressive governments in Latin America? Is the November 29 election legitimate or illegitimate? And how will the US backed government function if it is not recognized by most Latin American nations?
