Since Iran’s 1979 revolution which kicked US domination out of the country, the US has been vying to regain control over Iran. The US campaign against Iran has escalated steadily in recent years, with three sets of US and United Nations sanctions as well as European Union sanctions, a military buildup around Iran including in Iran’s neighbouring countries, occupied Iraq and Afghanistan, and a propaganda campaign against Iran. The protests in Iran following the recent elections there also came with reports of covert US intervention and a crescendo of US propaganda against Iran.
US threats against Iran have continued, as just this last weekend US Vice-President Joe Biden made comments that the US would not stand in the way of Israel's response to Iran's nuclear development. Meanwhile, US military chief Admiral Mike Mullen said Washington should keep military options on the table.
This forum will be an opportunity to discuss these developing issues facing Iran, and how the antiwar movement must respond in defence of a country under the threat of imperialist attack.
