* Full Schedule Below

Antiwar organizing is on the move at campuses in the Lower Mainland and
Vancouver Island!

Mobilization Against War & Occupation (MAWO) is organizing with campus
antiwar groups, students unions and many individuals to bring students a
coordinated week of forums, discussions, debates and film showings on campuses
across the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

Today, students in Canada face hardship with skyrocketing tuition fees,
devastation from student loans, rising debt and minimum wage jobs. All and all
students have been pushed below the poverty line, and a barrage of military
recruiters on campuses are falsely promising students prosperity if they join.
Here at home the government of Canada makes getting an education and decent work
difficult for young people.

Abroad, the government of Canada is attacking our Afghan sisters and brothers,
young or old, students or scholars, workers or peasants with the excuse of
fighting terrorism and the Taliban. In Afghanistan, the reality of Canada’s
war drive means that young people are facing poverty and hopelessness that
forces them to work in inhuman conditions in order to survive. In the capital
city of Kabul alone, there is an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 street children.
Furthermore, what does a right to education mean, when the most basic rights are
being denied – the right to life, and more specifically the right to
self-determination for Afghanistan. In addition to disease, a lack of health
care, and infrastructure, air strikes and checkpoint shootings are regularly
killing young people in Afghanistan. One example is on November 3rd 2008 when
occupation forces bombed a wedding in Kandahar, killing at least 37 civilians,
including 23 children and youth.

The reality of Canada’s brutal war in Afghanistan must develop a human
obligation in students across Canada to get involved in organizing against this
unjust and illegal war drive. Join an event on your campus to discuss this new
era of war and occupation that has caused misery and destruction in Afghanistan,
Iraq and Palestine as well as an impending war on Iran. If you haven’t gotten
involved yet please join MAWO and BE AN ANTIWAR ACTIVIST!
