For the 42nd time since 2005 Mobilization Against War & Occupation [MAWO] is bringing together
peace and social justice activists at the Canadian Forces Recruitment Centre to protest the
Canada/NATO occupation of Afghanistan.

For nearly seven years now Canada, the US, and NATO have brutally attacked Afghanistan through war
and occupation. With the continued attack on poor and working people in Afghanistan, 2008 has
brought more misery and destruction to this country. The death total for Canadian soldiers has
risen this year to 83. And as no reports or body counts have been done on Afghans, on May 20,
2008, the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm., Michael Mullen, admitted that violence
and killing in Afghanistan is increasing rapidly.

As Canada increases its war drive in this new era of war and occupation, Prime Minister of Canada,
Stephen Harper announced a further escalation on May 12, 2008. He announced what he called a new
“Canada First” Defence Strategy that will spend $30 billion on military over the next 20 years.

As the government of Canada furthers their military and economic goals at the cost of the lives
and dignity of Canadian poor and working people, it is of urgency that people here in Canada act
against this criminal war drive. On May 22nd, please join peace loving and anti-war activists in
demanding:
