Vancouver Activists Demand: Canada Out of Afghanistan! US/UK Out of Iraq! Don’t Attack Iran!

On Thursday June 19th the Government of Canada released the details of the “Canada First Defence Strategy”, a 20 year plan for military build-up. The details were released with no advance notice and the previously quoted $35 billion budget has now jumped to $490 billion of taxpayers’ money. As Canada prepares for a lead role in this new era of war and occupation, peace-loving, poor and working people will be out on the streets this Saturday to demand an end to war and occupation.

'Over 4.7 million bullets were fired by Canadian troops in Afghanistan just between April 2006 and December 2007, according to Canada’s Defence Department' stated MAWO co-chair Janine Solanki. 'What ‘construction’ can the government of Canada claim they achieved with 4.7 million bullets? How much more of this so-called ‘construction’ will Canada do with a bigger military and more weapons?'

As long term military plans are being laid by the government of Canada, the US is attempting to stay afloat in their quagmire in Iraq, as they are negotiating with the occupation-backed Iraqi government in order to establish a 'legal basis for a long-term US military presence.' One can ask, what is legal about the 1.2 million Iraqi people already killed in Iraq? The catastrophic effects of the war on Iraq and Afghanistan can foreshadow an even bloodier potential war, as the US continues its threats of attack against Iran. With 3 sets of sanctions imposed by the US and UN already, now just recently on June 23rd the European Union announced sanctions on Iran. Along with these sanctions, a US military build-up in the Persian Gulf poses a clear message that the US is preparing for an attack on Iran. 

Saturday’s rally will be demanding end to the US/UK war on Iraq, Canada out of Afghanistan and NO to war on Iran.
