Protesters Demand: "Canada Out of Afghanistan Now!"
"Independent Public Inquiry Now!"

In 2007 Afghanistan confronted the bloodiest year in
over 6 years of Canada/NATO military occupation, with
over 6,500 reported deaths according to Associated
Press. The prospects for 2008 show a heightening of
Canada's occupation, with a Spring vote in Parliament
aimed to extend the mission to end in 2011. On Tuesday
January 15th at 4:00pm, Mobilization Against War and
Occupation (MAWO) will picket at the Canadian Forces
Recruitment Center in Vancouver to demand that the
occupation of Afghanistan must end immediately and
that the troops must come home now!

In the first two weeks of 2008, 2 Canadian soldiers
have died in Afghanistan, bringing Canada's death toll
to 76. These deaths are not to "bring stability,"
which Canada's Governor General claimed is the case in
her New Years speech. Instead, not even basic
resources required to run factories and a city are
upheld, as the Asian Development Bank found that
nationwide only six percent of Afghans have
electricity. In Kabul, Afghans may get only 3 hours of
electricity a day, according to USAID. Throughout
Afghanistan, worries heighten as NATO air raids
continue to strike whole villages and even the camps
of road construction workers.

As we enter another year of this brutal occupation,
the Afghan people continue to fight daily against the
occupation of their country. Mobilization Against War
and Occupation continues to collect signatures on the
13,000 strong petition against Canada's occupation of
Afghanistan. As the government of Canada's refuses to
debate the causes of the war with millions of poor and
working people in Canada, Mobilization Against War and
occupation is calling for an Independent Public
Inquiry into the government of Canada's decisions to
begin, extend and escalate the war drive in
Afghanistan.
