DEMAND: "Canada/NATO Out of Afghanistan Now!" &
"Independent Public Inquiry Now!"

As 2008 sets in, the war and occupation in Afghanistan
continues to bring nothing but death, destruction, and
misery for the people of Afghanistan. This violent
Canada/NATO occupation has already resulted in many
more deaths of Afghan civilians in the new year. The
occupation has also resulted in the deaths of three
Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan in the last two weeks
alone, bringing the total of Canadian soldiers killed
in Afghanistan to 76.

The Associated Press estimates that the number of
civilian deaths in Afghanistan in 2007 was 6,500,
surpassing death totals from any other year of the
occupation. With Canada’s top army general Rick
Hillier publicly stating that he wants quicker access
to new helicopters, 2008 will bring more suffering for
the people of Afghanistan with more tools in the hands
of the Canadian military. His latest impatience is a
dangerous sign of things to come considering it was
less than three years ago where he said that Afghans
“are detestable murderers and scumbags,” and that “we
are the Canadian Forces, and our job is to be able to
kill people.”

Despite these threats and actions of violence by the
government and military of Canada, the people of
Afghanistan are fighting for their lives and to end
the occupation of their land. The call for an end to
the occupation must continue, and must be fought for
in order to bring the right of self determination to
the people of Afghanistan. Join anti-war and social
justice activists on the streets of Vancouver in
demanding that this criminal and inhumane occupation
end immediately!
