Even as the US faces a quagmire in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US and their Western allies are escalating their campaign of aggression and preparations for war against Iran. These include 3 sets of UN Security Council sanctions, as well as US sanctions, that attempt to weaken Iran’s economy and strangle Iranian people. On August 8th, 2008, the European Union enacted another round of sanctions which include further restrictions on trade with Iranian companies and operations of Iranian banks. All of these sanctions are in addition to a massive US build-up of warships and military arsenal in the Persian Gulf, as well as the constant propaganda campaign against Iran in the international media.

The US and their Western allies have been carrying out a war drive and occupation in Iraq for more than 5 years and Afghanistan for almost 7 years. The US-led war drive for ‘liberation’ in Iraq has killed more than 1.2 million Iraqi people and has left half of the population living in ‘absolute poverty’, according to a report by Oxfam. The occupation of Afghanistan has killed unknown tens of thousands of people and millions of people are refugees both inside and outside Afghanistan. We know Iranian people will face the same destruction with a US attack and the human toll would be immense.

Iranian people are now facing great threat of imperialist attack. It is essential for peace-loving and humanity-loving people around the world to unite around the call “No War on Iran!” “No Sanctions on Iran!” Join MAWO and ICAW to discuss the threat of war against the people of Iran and what we can do about it.
