Alison Bodine, Co-Chair and a spokesperson of Mobilization Against War and Occupation, was recently targeted as an antiwar activist and arrested by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), after her antiwar materials were searched and held at the border. Her case
is one of many as US and Canadian war resisters also face increasing persecution for refusing to fight the criminal Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Several similar cases have risen in the past few weeks including the case of CODEPINK US antiwar activists denied entry into Canada, and the recent arrest of Imam Jaziri, a Tunisian refugee in Montreal who was an outspoken community organizer against Islamophobia and who now faces deportation from Canada. In all of these cases it is clear that the Government of Canada and the CBSA are targeting people who are organizing and mobilizing against war and occupation at home and abroad. Join us to analyze and discuss in depth these continuing attacks in the context of the current era of war and occupation, and how the antiwar movement must respond and move forward!

Events at UBC, SFU, UVic, Capilano, Langara, Douglas and more!
High schools, colleges and universities are in full swing and MAWO is organizing with antiwar groups on campuses across the lower mainland to bring a week of forums, film showings and more. As student struggle against increasing tuition fees, military recruiters and
increased public funds being used on the military, the reality of Canada's war abroad has become a catalyst for students to get involved in organizing against it!

>>> THURSDAY October 18th
Alison Bodine Defence Committee Meeting
-- 7:00pm
-- Large North Hall of Joe's Cafe
-- (on Commercial Drive at Williams St)
After last weeks Admissibility Hearing, Alison and the many supporters from progressive communities in Vancouver and beyond are now anticipating the verdict of her case on October 31st. After weeks of defence actions and forums, her October 11th hearing was a
step forward in exposing Canadian Border Services Agency in their politically motivated attack on Alison. This attack is aimed at trying to silences her outspoken demands, and those of all social justice activists, in struggle for basic human rights in the growing era of war & occupation that millions struggle against everyday. This ongoing attack on democratic and human rights is also clear from the recent arrest of US War Resister Robin Long, who came to Canada, leaving the US army in opposition of the US occupation of Iraq who now must fight to gain refugee status in Canada. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has continued politically motivated attacks by denying entry to Canada to prominent US antiwar activists, Medea Benjamin of CODEPINK Women for Peace and Ann Wright, a retired US army colonel. The CBSA has also arrested and threatened deportation to Imam Jaziri, a refugee in Montreal and outspoken community leader and organizer against the 2005 publication of racist and insulting cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.
In all of these cases it is clear that the Government of Canada and the CBSA are targeting people who are organizing and mobilizing against war and occupation at home and abroad. Join us to analyze and discuss in depth these continuing attacks in the context of the
current era of war and occupation, and how the antiwar movement must respond and move forward!
