As the new era of war and occupation rages across the Middle East, US 
imperialism also has countries in Latin America in its sights for more 
exploitation and threats of intervention and invasion, including Cuba, 
Venezuela and Bolivia.

Since the election of Hugo Chavez as President of Venezuela in 1998, a 
widespread movement for positive social change has begun. Against this 
process, the US government and CIA played a large role in supporting the 
failed right-wing coup by the former elites that took place against the 
Chavez government in 2002. Today, the US continues its support for the rich 
minority against this democratically elected government and maintains a 
propaganda campaign accusing Venezuela of everything from 'supporting 
terrorism' to 'destabilizing the region'.

Why is the US targeting Venezuela with a slander campaign and direct 
attacks? What is the significance of Venezuela for oppressed people in the 
context of today’s era of imperialist war and occupation? What is the 
significance of Venezuela for the imperialist war-making countries? What can 
we learn from Venezuela in our work here to build a broad, united, effective 
movement to end imperialist war and occupation?

Join us this week for a special presentation as we discuss Venezuela's role 
in the struggle against imperialist war, occupation and the struggle for a 
better world.
