July 12th has been called as a coast to coast day of action demanding
freedom for the 5 Cuban Heroes held in U.S. jails, and for the release
of the humanitarian aid seized June 30th by U.S. Homeland Security on
its way through the U.S. and on to Cuba. This medical aid was being
brought by the Pastors for Peace Caravan, and was detained as they
crossed the Quebec/Maine border in order to defy the illegal, immoral
and inhuman U.S. blockade on Cuba. 
 
The Free the Cuban 5 Committee-Vancouver, Vancouver Communities in
Solidarity with Cuba (VCSC), the Caravane D'amitié Québec-Cuba
Committee, along with other organizations, will be holding picket
actions throughout the country. 

This day of action also comes before a very crucial point in the case
of Cuban 5.  On August 20th the Cuban 5 and their lawyers will be
appealing for a change of venue and a retrial on the grounds that no
fair trial for these men could ever take place in Miami, the hub of
anti-Cuban terrorism in the U.S. and it is vital that we make our
voices heard for their release.

Who are the Cuban 5?

Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labanino, Fernando Gonzalez,
Rene Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez were investigating
activities organized by right-wing, anti-Cuban
terrorist groups in Miami that have organized
countless acts of terrorism against the Cuban people
with full support of the U.S. government. These acts
of terrorism, such as airplane and hotel bombings and
the poisoning of livestock and water reserves, have
led to the deaths of 3,500 Cubans.

In 1998, these 5 Heroes – known as the Cuban 5 – were
arrested in Miami, charged and convicted of
“conspiracy to commit espionage” and “conspiracy to
commit murder” without concrete evidence. Today they
continue to be held in U.S. jails, simply for
defending their people against terrorism. The Cuban 5
are innocent and must be freed!

El 12 de Julio ha sido declarado un día de acción de costa a costa para
la libertad de los Cinco Héroes Cubanos presos en los EE.UU., y por la
liberación de la ayuda humanitaria confiscada el 30 de Junio por la
Homeland Security de los EE.UU. en camino a Cuba por los EE.UU. La
ayuda médica estaba siendo transportada por la Caravana de los Pastores
por la Paz, y fue detenido cuando cruzaban la frontera de Québec y
Maine con la intención de desafiar el ilegal, inmoral, y cruel bloqueo
de los EE.UU. sobre Cuba.

El Comité para la Liberación de los Cinco Cubanos- Vancouver,
Comunidades de Vancouver en Solidaridad con Cuba (VCSC), el comité
Caravane D'amitié Québec-Cuba, junto con otras organizaciones,
organizaran acciones de protesta en todo el pais.

El día de acción también ocurre antes de un punto muy importante en el
caso de los Cinco Cubanos. El 20 de agosto, los Cinco Cubanos y sus
abogados apelaran por un cambio de sitio y un nuevo juicio porque
sostienen que no podía haber ocurrido un proceso justo para 
estos hombres en Miami, el centro del terrorismo anticubano dentro de
los EE.UU., y es de gran importancia que hagamos escuchar nuestras
voces a favor de su liberación.

¿Quiénes son los Cinco Cubanos?

Rene González, y Gerardo Hernández, estaban
investigando actividades organizadas por grupos
terroristas anticubanos de ultraderecha en Miami que
han organizado innumerables actos de terrorismo en
contra del pueblo Cubano con el respaldo completo del
gobierno estadounidense. Estos actos de terrorismo,
tales como explosiones en aviones y hoteles, el
envenenamiento de ganado y reservas de agua, ha
causado la muerte de 3500 cubanos.

En 1998, estos Cinco Héroes- conocidos como los Cinco
cubanos- fueron arrestados en Miami, acusados y
condenados por "conspiración para cometer espionaje" y
"conspiración para cometer homicidio" sin haber
evidencia concreta. Hoy continúan presos en los
EE.UU., simplemente por haber defendido su pueblo
contra el terror. ¡Los Cinco Cubanos son inocentes y
deben ser libres!
