Saturday October 7th, 2006 was marked by the death of
the 40th Canadian soldier killed in Canadas
occupation of Afghanistan. Trooper Mark Andrew Wilson
of Petawawa, Ontario, died when his armoured
vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb in the Panjwaii
district west of Kandahar. Wilson is the 13th soldier
to be killed in the area since September 1st.
The recent escalation of deadly combat facing Canadian
troops in Afghanistan, especially since the launch of
Operation Medusa, is coupled with a rising
death toll for Afghan people, but we in Canada do not
hear about it. We know only of the conservative
estimate that AT LEAST 1500 Afghans have been killed
by NATOs Canadian-led Operation Medusa alone in the
last month what about the combat operations in the
rest of Southern Afghanistan? What about people killed
by unsafe water, preventable diseases, malnutrition,
and other effects of living under occupation?
With every soldier killed in the occupation, the
Canadian military seeks to recruit more young people
from Canada to send to Afghanistan to kill Afghan
people fighting for
freedom from the occupation. Youth, students, and
poor and working people in Canada say: NOT ONE MORE
LIFE FOR THE
CANADIAN WAR DRIVE!
MAWO is calling for the 21st picket protest action at
the Canadian Armed Forces Recruitment Center since the
July 2005 announcement that Canada would be doubling
its forces in Afghanistan. On Thursday October 12 we
will protest these deaths and the further
destruction that is assured by the continuation of the
occupation.
BRING ALL TROOPS HOME NOW!
CANADA OUT OF AFGHANISTAN NOW!
